Sharing thoughts about the Christian faith, education, and the call to seek the Common Good.
Rely not on your wealth;
say not: "I have the power."
Rely not on your strength
in following the desires of your heart.
Say not: "Who can prevail against me?"
or, "Who will subdue me for my deeds?"
for the Most High bides his time.

“The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much, it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.” Spoken by one president, rejected entirely by another.

I tend to think both Bonhoeffer and Dallas Willard was right, the whole western church is guilty of co-opting Jesus into our various images; the enduring lesson of Jesus insisting he remain hidden so his message remain clear, ie the 'Messianic Secret'

19thnews.org/2025/01/phot... We can expect Trump's speechwriters to coopt King's words into a pithy sanctimonious sound bite. It will be a painful sound of Americans' betrayal to King's dream. Tomorrow the nation will be indicted. Trump is merely the false prophet who offered the golden calf.

Canada as a 51st state? Republicans would never win another general election
Canada as the 51st state would doom the Republican Party. If Donald Trump cannot understand he’s taunting useful U.S. allies with annexation threats, he could at least follow his electoral instincts.

Wow. That's an indicting statement.
When historians chronicle America’s most enduring dilemma - racism - they should never forget how Americans were willing to accept treason from their white President rather than health care from the black one.

Just came across a thread of very thought-provoking comments on the mindset of 'rural' Americans. Need to listen more to those whose lives are entwined in the environment that supports these political agendas.
Any help you give, zero-sum thinkers see it as a loss. That’s why Trump won. He didn’t promise them prosperity. He promised them punishment.

I live in Georgia. Our Senators pushed tons of rural initiatives. Rural areas got plenty of projects.

What won is zero-sum thinking on the culture war.
