Our #objectoftheweek is this painted silk banner in our collection, a rare survival from Cromwell's state funeral - he died #OnThisDay 3 September 1658. This is one of only 4 such banners that survive of the more than a thousand that were made. #17thCentury

On this date in 1650, Cromwell and the New Model Army secured a decisive victory against a Scottish royalist army at Dunbar. Exactly a year later, he defeated Charles II's army at Worcester. Ironically, the date of his death in 1658 was also September 3rd.
