New In Brief article from @minyaojhu.bsky.social & Raphael Ledermann (Oxford) highlights how plants support nitrogen-fixing bacteria by producing heme precursors needed by both partners. A clever case of coordinated nodule metabolism! 🌱https://doi.org/10.1093/plcell/koaf156

Very happy to see my friend Uta Paszkowski from @cropscicentre.bsky.social elected to @nasonline.org. Improved plant-microbe symbioses are a key puzzle piece in the fight against the #climatecatastrophe (yes, it hasn’t gone away).

🧬 As part of a wider collaboration, our researchers show that disrupting plant-nematode communication could limit cyst nematode infections. A step towards more resilient crops.🌱https://www.cropsciencecentre.org/news/disrupting-communication-with-plants-could-limit-cyst-nematode-infections/

And coincides with writing up a paper featuring lots of live-imaged arbuscules. So here's one example: confocal micrograph of a rice root colonised by the mycorrhizal fungus Rhizophagus irregularis, coloured by depth 🔬
