Long time listener, no time caller.
nymag.com/intelligence... covered the process last year when it was more of a Facebook phenomenon, and spoke to a Kenyan AI slop spammer who offered classes on how to make money from it: ask ChatGPT what (typically) Americans would engage with on social media, then ask Midjourney to draw it.

Not even full letters, a small white square and a small red square would do it.

These don't look like kids on a school trip, but yes, we have been here before, in 2016: www.scarymommy.com/teens-on-pho...
This Photo Went Viral Because We Love Shaming Teens For Using The Technology We Give Them

30 years ago these people would have been reading books or newspapers, taking a break from the art, looking at tourist maps, or chatting about (gasp!) non-Caravaggio-related subjects. We just do a lot of that on handheld devices now.

Perhaps there's nothing in the corpus at all, to suggest what intonation to give such a strange and repetitive sentence? I'd expect any random sequence of just two words to go the same way, and for the exact repetition to leap out to the listener under the en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speech-...

Full book is available at archive.org/details/down... and it doesn't mention marbles or kites or drones anywhere. Bleak that people took this seriously when it was very visibly a screenshot of an AI overview.

With a more generous time limit you could take blind jabs with some disorienting run-up at the rough area of the keypad, mostly missing it but being equally likely to hit any of the keys whenever you do. Maybe ask the moderator for a very long stick.

Amazed to find evidence that Billy Whizzbang's story might be traceable to the end of WWI, if you could pass this on to Professor Harkam. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fawcett...)

Change the opener to "what is the secret of happiness" and end with:

M: "And that will make me happy?"

V: "No. It will make others think you are happier than them. You asked for: the secret of happiness. That is its secret."

M: "Ugh, I give up, I knew this wouldn't work."

V: "That's the spirit!"

Steven Levitt ran a study a decade ago asking people to make life-changing decisions based on a coin flip, which were followed up: "Individuals who are told by the coin toss to make a change are [...] happier six months later than those who were told by the coin to maintain the status quo."

Probably an old domain that expired and got bought up by a spammer. Was common even before AI for spammers to fill out the known, previous structure of a site with plausible replacement content, rather than 404 errors. I guess they'll add the spam or sell the domain on later.
