This #FolkHorrorFriday, October 10, join us for LOKIS: A MANUSCRIPT OF PROFESSOR WITTEMBACH (1970).

I'm thrilled that this gem from Poland has been getting positive attention, in large part thanks to @kierlajanisse.bsky.social and the ALL THE HAUNTS BE OURS box set.

We'll start at 9pm ET.

Cover reveal and preorder link.

I wrote a book about food and ecocriticism in #folkhorror films, out early 2026 from McFarland Books.

Preorder links make good spooky season gifts for the ecocrit professor haunting your department.

My debut novel ROOT MAGIC is a great intro for both kids & adults to Hoodoo and Gullah Geechee culture, full of historical events, folklore, & rootwork.

If you're looking for a book about making a way when there’s no way, I hope you'll get a copy!

The cover of ROOT MAGIC on a light and dark green background, strewn with foliage. Young Black twins (boy and girl) stand back to back in the middle of a marsh of blue, yellow and green mist lined with trees and reeds. She is holding a book, and her doll is peeking out of the pocket of her blue dress. He is wearing dark blue overalls and holding a bottle of magic potion and had a mojo bag around his neck.

Text reads: "A must-read, sure to leave readers wishing for more after the final page." -Booklist (starred review)

We've talked about Clearcut, which is a Canadian film. There isn't, to my knowledge, an US folk horror movie about Native Americans (at least not from the Indigenous perspectives--plenty of stereotypes, though). Would love to hear differently, though.

He studied it, at least, if he isn't practicing now

Funny, those were the two I was thinking of doing next for scary found footage. But now I'm considering Lokis, Jug Face, and Psychomania

We'd love you to join, but I know Fridays are hard all around!

Saaaaaaame. Have you read Dirt Upon My Skin by Steve Toase? Excellent collection of archaeology horror, by an archaeologist.

I don't know why so many of them start with "L." I guess "L" is the scariest letter.

A few choices for Scary Season:

Jug Face
Lokis
Luz: The Flower of Evil
Lake Mungo
Butterfly Kisses
Lamb
Psychomania
La Llorona

I kind of assume it's all about imperial guilt

What did you think? I've seen this one a few times and find it pretty effective.
