Ban predatory utility shutoff practices

Stop insurance profiteering: crack down on price manipulation, require clearer rate filings, and deny hikes that aren’t justified.

Florida politicians love “small government” until a city or county tries to solve local problems. Then Tallahassee preempts it. Local control should mean communities can protect renters, workers, water, and schools, without the state kneecapping them.

A spectre is haunting Polk County, the spectre of socialism. All the powers of old Polk have entered into a holy alliance to exorcise this spectre: the developers and the donors; the consultants and the cable-news scolds; the party bosses and the “be realistic” moderates.
