If we let it, this season can be a refining, a crucible experience, where the dross gets burned away and only pure gold remains. Blog at http://crucibleofthought.com
Really provocative to a person like me raised on the idea. I’ll have to chew on this one.

I’ve been learning how the gospel writers probably tailored their narratives to tell a story, more than convey actual historical facts. It seems apparent that they made some things up. Maybe this is one.

LOL. When they've got nothing but indefensible dogma, they resort to name calling. But it is good for a laugh.

2/ By volunteering at a local shelter, you can help get those vets off the streets and into safe and warm housing before it gets colder. Clearly the current administration doesn't care about them. Let's do what we can together, even if the government has shamefully abandoned them.

Note that when Jesus used the words we translate “save” or “salvation” He was talking about earthly things, meeting their needs, freeing them from oppression. Somehow we remapped that to where we spend eternity. What if we are wrong about that?

Yes! The average church only spends 5% of its income on the needs outside its doors. Megachurches, 1%. We can do far more for the Kingdom and bringing practical salvation to people by NOT tithing but directly giving to meet the need.

4/ That's why Paul so sharply criticized the early church for unholy communion meals, where the rich separated themselves from the poor. When we sit down at table together at real meals - it's impossible to miss the need. And seeing the need with someone you know and love leads to meeting the need.

3/ Consider that this kind of personal approach to helping the poor depends on something critical: relationship. If you isolate yourself from people of lower social standing, it's easy to ignore the need; you never see it. But if you live and eat with them, it's impossible to miss.

2/ If each of the middle-class Christian households personally and generously fed just TWO people, there would be no hunger. None.

When will our use of PERSONAL finances finally reflect Jesus' teachings?

Have you read "The Immortality Key: The Secret History of the Religion with No Name" yet? It's a fascinating exploration of the history of psychedelics connected to all the major world religions.
