My cat likes this climate change thing. Sunbathing in January.

I ate spinach. For breakfast.

If this is health, I don't really want it.

Oh! New fun fact!
Many humans believe we’re only bi-racially black and white. Another advantage King Penguins have is living with a brown coat for about a year, which even led early sailors to mistake this as a separate species (referred to as Oakum Boys).

No matter the color, we’re all critical to thriving as one

I've been learning French on and off for 21 years. I just now made the connection between oublier (verb, to forget) and oubliette (dungeon with access only through the ceiling).

I don't know whether to be horrified at my lack of progress and understanding or pleased that I got it at all.

The cats allow me to sit on their couch.

There is no reason for this.

I don't enjoy this overview of this comic that I do enjoy.

Fine. This matters.

Nothing matters, nothing I can do matter, maybe I should go to bed early tonight. That'll fix me for sure. 🙄

Best economy ever?
The jobs report is in. What a disaster.

Maybe someone smarter than me could articulate this better, but the murders of both Laken Riley (by an immigrant) and Renee Good (by an ICE agent) are being used to justify the use of force by ICE. It's never really been about the victims.
Trump: "I have just viewed the clip of the event which took place in Minneapolis. It is a horrible thing to watch. The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting ... "

Can 2026 just stop? Please?
January 8, 2026 at 4:08 AM
I'm preeeetty sure that's Congress's job. But what does that even mean anymore.
Trump: "I have determined that, for the Good of our Country, especially in these very troubled and dangerous times, our Military Budget for the year 2027 should not be $1 Trillion Dollars, but rather $1.5 Trillion. This will allow us to build the 'Dream Military' that we have long been entitled to."

Why am I having to explain to a 45 year old man the difference between co-pays and co-insurance, while he pronounces it COIN-surance?

I wonder if they looked at size of dwelling vs number of inhabitants. I do think I'd be happier if I wasn't sleeping on a futon in the living room at 38 years old. Fewer back problems, at least.
A Washington Post article suggests that, beyond a certain threshold, larger homes don't make people happier. Instead, well-being is correlated with affordable housing in walkable neighborhoods where they feel socially connected.

Out of the 6 of her books that I read back-to-back, last summer, this was the passage that really struck me.
All too relevant, even a few months ago.

I read a comment the other day, saying that a startling number of people consider the US to be the only legitimate country. I have recognized example after example of that attitude since then.
MILLER: The US is using its military to secure our interests unapologetically in our hemisphere. We're a superpower. It's absurd we'd allow a nation in our backyard to become a supplier of resources to our adversaries

TAPPER: Sovereign countries shouldn't be able to do what they want?

They can actually multi-task atrocities.

Called it.
Insanity: Sources close to the White House told the Washington Post Trump lost interest in backing Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado to lead the country because she accepted her Nobel Peace Prize rather than demanding it be given to Trump, which was viewed as an “ultimate sin.”
