Calm down. Yes I said we could send them back to France and then corrected myself to say it was to their point of entry in the EU. You said they had to claim asylum in another country first which isn't the case. They just need to be registered and sometime not even that. We've both been corrected.

Because I've already demonstrated they don't have to claim asylum elsewhere.

Fake news

Yes, they can be if they were registered in another EU country and in some instances, even if they didn't register as we did with over 1,000 claimants under DIII when we were in the EU.

Let's avoid filibustering, one thing at a time. What I stated in your screenshot was right as has been demonstrated further on in our exchange.

We clearly have opposing political stances on immigration and that's fine but I stand by my initial post that the small boat issues are Farage's legacy.

Farage said we could control our borders if we left the EU which is false because it took us out of DIII so I stand by this.

I said we could send back to France when in fact it would be back to their point of entry. I corrected this, you refuted and you were wrong.

Show me the deportation no's

My argument was that we "could" not that we did, and i agree with your point on Labour. The Tories barely deported as they wanted to create a bottleneck to use immigration as their culture war to win the next election. Unfortunately they didn't factor in the Reform effect.

Deportations from small boat crossings are a fraction of the number reported in the last year and those that were are thanks to agreements made with countries of origin. It's not quite the same as being able to "send them back" like we could have under Dublin III, but it's more than the Tories did.

Over a thousand a year. Much more than we've managed since Farage convinced us to leave the EU to better control our borders... Which brings us full circle back to my original point 👌

This is a bit clearer (with examples) and shows that the UK did used to remove people who had arrived under the Dublin Regulation.

That relates to their registration at the point of entry, not a separate asylum claim. They can still be transferred back to the first EU country if the IPO determines it responsible for the application, based on it being the first point of entry.

EU Dublin Regulation
The EU Dublin Regulation provides a mechanism for determining which country is responsible for examining an application for international protection.

I'm still waiting for a link to a legitimate site that confirms your claim.

This was Google's AI summary which mentions the 'first country of entry' part I brought up. I still haven’t found anything backing your claim that people can only be returned if they’ve already applied for asylum elsewhere.

Googled it, got this

It would be mainly Spain and Italy. Sources please on what you're saying?
October 29, 2025 at 7:21 PM
News to me. My understanding is it enables other EU countries to return asylum seekers to the first EU country they entered (subject to certain criteria). I'm also fairly sure we sent a few back successfully whilst we were still in the EU. Happy to be corrected but would need sources please.

The point is we could have sent the ones arriving in small boats in 2018 back to France under the Dublin agreement if we really wanted to. Now that it's been made into such a massive issue, we've removed that option by leaving the EU.
