Chloe Allen from University of Victoria BC is making descriptions of the marine encrustations preserved on the upper segments of the drill cores collected from ancient Roman harbor structures by the harbor sites by the Roman Archaeological Concrete Survey.

They’ve made it across the Ross Ice Shelf! Huge congrats to the Antarctica NZ traverse crew, for completing a 13-day journey to our drilling site at Crary Ice Rise. They towed sleds with fuel, equipment and supplies, to keep our deep-field camp cranking. Now it's time to set up camp!

Researchers from DiSTAR at Univ. Federico II Italy, Univ. of Victoria BC, Univ. of Utah, and Univ. of Colorado is creating an archival database of drill cores of ancient Roman marine concrete collected from 11 harbor sites by the Roman Archaeological Concrete Survey.

VGSP Savannah Rivera from University of Oklahoma is sampling cores collected from three sites in Lake Tanganyika to study the impact of land use and climate change on the sediment over the past few thousand years.

VGSP Carson McFarland from University of Wisconsin Milwaukee is sampling cores collected in 2023 in Olduvai Gorge, Tanzania for volcanic layers which he will correlate to previously described geologic units using geochemistry and mineralogy.

Researchers from University of the Republic of Uruguay are splitting and describing cores collected in coastal lagoons between Uruguay and Brazil. They will use XRF, grain size, diatoms, and stable isotope data to study anthropogenic impacts and long term sea level oscillations.
