An American/German in Berlin. Berkeley alum (Go Bears!). Erstwhile Texan. Credo: “There are other forces at work than those of evil. And that is an encouraging thought.”
This is the Trump Foundation fake "humanitarian organization" scam all over again, though this time at a global level (since the family is now banned from running or sitting on boards of legitimate US ones).

(A plan to finally renovate the 120-year old Yorckstraße transit complex and provide direct, barrier-free transfers to the underground line was proposed in 2018 but never implemented. Now DB says the best they can do is fold improvements into the new S21 line (which is scheduled to open in--2037!).

I can't think of another explanation. The steady advance of High Alemannic dialects in Romansh-speaking regions is surely top of mind for the U.S. administration. Unless, of course, A Fish Called Wanda was the Air Force One in-fight movie. That might also explain it.

For the folks in the back: the ability of the Trump GOP to pass the Big Bonkers Bill giving massive breaks to billionaires like Bessent, Lutnick Trump and crew, while skyrocketing US debt, is only made possible by the willingness of Europe, Japan, and China to fund that debt. Now who has the cards?

Prig Bessent here showing he doesn't understand at all how the European Union works, which allows small states to punch above their weight by being part of the world's largest single market. You bash Denmark, you bash the entire EU, America's biggest trading partner and massive Treasury bond holder.

Clearly he is referring to U.S. efforts to fund education in the Romansh dialects in the Graubünden/Grisons region.

I think the comparisons of the slogans "Defund the Police" and "Abolish ICE" are overdone. I mean, "Defund the Police" was a terrible slogan even the people who repeated it had to say they *didn't literally mean it* (hint: then it's a bad slogan), whereas ICE has only existed for about twenty years.

It will get worse before it gets better. My only hope is that the GOP wants to get these horrific daily images off of people's TVs as we get closer to the midterms. It is backfiring on them. Trump's approval ratings on immigration (once his signature issue) are now -20 in the tank with independents.
