Shoutout to first author, Isabella Alves, a @damonrunyon.org SPARK postbaccalaureate fellow and rising star in hematology. Very proud to see this work in print and honored to have had the opportunity to review the original article and learn more about the coolness of ferroptosis🩸🔮

If you find yourself in a mismatch, it’s okay for a mentor or a mentee say, “this is a mismatch”, or “I can’t give you what you need” and follow a path to another opportunity. It’s not a failure, it’s actually a sign of maturity and self-awareness.

That doesn’t mean to discount what lab personnel say… but you might desire more hands-off mentoring and space for creativity while someone else might need more hands-on training, more frequent check ins, or directives. Everyone is different.

I was a part of the 2020 Eddie Méndez Scholar Award cohort as a postdoc, which was my introduction to
@fredhutch.org. I cannot overstate how impactful this program was for my scientific and career development. Reach out if you have any questions! ❤️🩸
