It's not incompetence it's just an extremely slow, expensive and hard task. Even in peacetime.

It's not about them having a killswitch or whatever it's about them relying on very advanced components we can only get from the US. Think about how despite all china's state resources and willingness to steal, copy + ignore IP rights they still lag massively behind in processor design&manufacture.

Idk what to tell you, that's what the commission concluded. You seem too be under the assumption that UK governments are a) historically competent and b) prepared for unlikely scenarios. As the covid response showed, they were not even prepared beforehand for relatively likely ones.

Nazi Germany didn't have 5k+ nuclear warheads and they didn't supply a large chunk of our own military capability. Like it or not, we lost the self-sufficiency we had back then. Weapons are too complex now to just get random civilians in to make them overnight in repurposed factories.

I didn't say the EU would do that. I assume if that happened that would come from non-government groups, as they often do when places are invaded.

I don't like this state of affairs at all, it's a good wakeup call to start extracting europe from it's reliance on the states. But there's no chance of a conflict with them when as a nation you can just write a stern statement and then slowly start decoupling yourself from them instead.

Like, the nato missile defense system for Europe is run by the US. The UK nuclear deterrent relies on US infrastructure. A lot of the missiles and jets europe has are from the US. And focusing resources on a doomed battle with them would be Putins best opportunity to expand yet.

Human beings aren't rational, but governments are often cowardly. I'm sure there would terrorist attacks and a diplomatic shitstorm of sanctions/tarrifs etc. But even with every EU nation + the UK in lockstep (which is fantasy) you couldn't win because a lot of the hardware is from the US.

The only thing that could be a deterrent, would be russia or china getting involved for some reason because they have less reason to capitulate. (But to be clear i don't see this happening)

Doesn't matter. The US already has a military base on greenland, it doesn't have to fight it's way in. They just have to declare 'this is ours now' and nobody in the west will do anything because nobody is gonna risk getting into a shooting match with the country that makes all their weapons.

Truely a place where only the most horrible little slug people on the internet comment, overseen by a mod team so delusional it makes the AI bubble look well-reasoned

Me when people make it about what Maduro has done in the context of a clearly illegal attack motivated by oil.
