Something that's always stuck with me is Caroline Lucas pointing out that MPs who are also doctors would never get places on health committees - where their experience and expertise would be useful. And this is baked in for all experts in their field.

Tangentially I do find it interesting that every time a new shiny photo thing comes along everyone bangs on about how shit Flickr is, and yet, there it is, still going and still the same while everything else gets worse.

In letterpress you've got em spaces, en spaces (½ em), thicks (⅓ em), mids (¼ em) and thins (⅕ em). And separately there's the minus character which isn't a hyphen, and...

When I was a proofreader here in the UK one of the first things I did with texts from US writers was swap out em dashes for en dashes with spaces. Always slightly peeved that, as I'd done a lot of letterpress typesetting in college, those spaces couldn't easily be thins.

Obviously brilliant, bravo and whatnot. As a former proofreader I can't decide if this sentence needs fixing or not:

"These leaders are are being ousted for what are sometimes just clumsy mistakes,[...]."

But either way I'm enjoying the double 'are' as it works well in context.

Yes, and a five second timer after you press post before you have to press it again to actually send it. So much would be saved if the machines gave you a cold hard stare and said "Really? You want to do this?"

Becauee most of the time the typing is the thing, they're best not sent.
