as for the outfit, that's just a placeholder. phoenix is a character i wanna dress up a lot (at least whenever i'm able to draw them) so expect them in the future to have something more interesting than a tank top and sweatpants!!!

to FINALLY work with the "warm and cool" motif, i used the EYE COLORS! they're not perfect, but i like the idea of them both having very unique sets. the left head with his orange eyes and the right head with their heterochromic blue + purple FINALLY work in the warm + cool vibe in a very subtle way

...instead, i decided to make it so the left head (our right) has a softer, pink shade to reflect their peppy personality and more femme presentation (altho they go by he/him!) meanwhile, the right head (our left) has a harsh bright red to go with her more goth style of fashion and preferences

the hair was another issue, as i once again thought i could express their different vibes with warm + cool colors. since the hair is such a big part of the character, i went through a LOT of iterations... and ultimately the "warm + cool" motif once again didn't really pan out...

i did for a while consider the idea of splitting their fur color across the middle, with one half being warmer and one half being cooler, but i could never get it to look right and it always felt like i was compromising on some part of the design.

making the fur a sort of faded orange goes nicely with the "phoenix" name, but it's not too bright that it feels unnatural or overpowers the accent colors found within their hair.

the biggest issue for me was figuring out how to get a proper balance of color that would best evoke the personalities of each respective head. there's a certain "warmness" to the left head as well as a certain "coolness" to the right, but finding the balance within the palette was... daunting.
