Records (heh) suggest that the spring loaded stylus applied a lot of pressure and wore out discs a lot faster than normal, but playing your own music in the car instead of listening to radio was an unheard of luxury so hey, you probably wouldn't mind buying new ones!

Shared it around of course, til everyone was playing this, GeneRally, Unreal Tournament Gold (worked over the school's LAN!), Doom, and a couple of random sharewares xP
