You can even pledge to whoever worked on your favorite series via Pixiv FANBOX (Japan's equivalent to patreon) if they have it. A lot of fan artists use FANBOX to monetize their work. This includes animators as well.

I think the reason EAC is dogshit in recent times is because more games rely on it than any other solution. The same can be said for BattlEye.
