I saw a hand feeding a two-by-four into the path of the blade, a plank that stretched on forever, as if every tree felled for timber had been adhered, tip to tail, and the saw lowered at intervals matching the living height of the trees, each severance an echo, the machine screaming for the trees, the violence, the tearing, babies crowning from the cunt of the world, one after another, knowing no end.
