When I was about 12yo(circa 1980) this road was a dirt road. My dad and a couple of his buddies had deer tags for the Shell Creek mountains near Ely, Nv. One of his buds suggested we take this shortcut instead of driving up through Pioche,Nv. They paved it in 1982.

I was just in the Muddy Mountains Wilderness in southern Nevada, I saw 5 Mylar balloons, I was able to get one, the others were on cliff sides or not approachable
