The information one can obtain from obituaries, particular ones from Germans from Russia communities never stops surprising me. Through these obituaries I've now identified another set of 3rd and 4th great grandparents and a few more ancestral surnames! #genealogy

Week 4 of #52ancestors : Overlooked
I decided to do some quick research on a family line I don’t tend to research. In that little time I found that my 5th great grandfather Cyrus Weaver owned a distillery in Hastings Co, Ontario! Below is an article when my fifth great grandma sold it. #genealogy

I love this question! In 1925, I had 28 known living ancestors. My closest ancestor would be my 3rd great grandmother, Louisa. She would have been about 365 miles/587km away in Ontario! Fun fact - my farthest ancestor would be 3,406 miles away in Paisley, Scotland! #Genealogy
If you were suddenly transported back 100 years to 1925, how far would you have to travel to find your closest ancestor?

In 1925, I had 16 ancestors who were alive. My closest ancestors would be about 450 miles/724km away in Philadelphia, PA, where my grandfather Simon lived.

How's your cursive? For many of us here - being able to read old script is a requirement. Well... the National Archives is looking for some assistance:

The prompt this week for #52ancestors is favorite photo. This was such a difficult choice, but I settled on this photo of my 2nd great grandfather. I'm really lucky to have a few photos of him and the rest of the family from that time period.

I think I’ve finally decided that my #genealogy New Year’s resolution will be to finally scan all of my parents photo albums. Can’t wait to get them all into a digital format to share with other family members!

I’ve been struggling to decipher a word in a 17th century medical record. I was curious if ChatGPT could help me figure it out. It hasn’t (yet) but it sure is a great way to brainstorm ideas and to figure out steps to find the solution! #genealogy #AI

Most of my 9th great grandparents arrived in the United States before 1640. My most recent is my great grandmother who arrived in Canada from Scotland in 1926. So estimated around 286 years! #genealogy
What's the time span between when your most recent and most distant (that you know of so far) immigrant ancestors came to the country you're from?

My great-grandma came to the U.S. in 1914 from Poland, and I have 11x & 12x great-grandparents who came from England in 1620 = 294 years.

A little late to the party, but this looked so cool I had to do it too! What a wonderful way to show where the brick walls are and to show all of the different places my ancestors came from!

An example of how amazing FamilySearch's full text search has been for my research: I just discovered a whole new manuscript collection (John Winthrop Jr's medical records 1657-1669, held by the Massachusetts Historical Society) that has given me brand new insight into my Cadwell family. #genealogy

There are many. For me I’m thinking of my great-grandaunt Jennie S. Cadwell. She died in 1870 from croup at the age of 1 year 8 months.
#Genealogy friends, I’m thinking about my great uncle John Lenihan who died when he was just 2 from whooping cough because there was no vaccine in 1921. So many of these short lives are forgotten until the family historian finds them. It’s an honor to carry their memory.

Whose memory do you carry?
