Fun personal news! I’ve been nominated to the Project Connect (CapMetro/Austin Transit Partnership) Community Advisory Committee! 🥳

Pending approval by the ATP Board, CapMetro Board, and City Council — eager to dig in and help us build a stronger, more equitable, and more connected community.

This one’s for @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social and the beautiful people of New York City. From NYC to ATX, a little bit of hope restored tonight. God bless.

Austin is getting a new rail station! Love to see this — as the developer is building out their project, they're working with CapMetro to make sure residents, workers, and visitors can access the site without bringing a car. 🥳 www.capmetro.org/majorproject...

Tried to have an honest conversation with some Swifties about this very weird line from “Wi$h Li$t” and got basically what you’d expect

If there was a god, I’d thank her for making a place where I could feel happy, sad, both at once, or anywhere in between.

First day of fall. 91°F in Austin. No shelter at the bus stop, only a shrimpy palo verde whose shade reaches two feet from its center.

From the chair of my department.

Harrowing lead in, where academic freedom is a university commitment “to the best of [their] knowledge” (which is to say, very tentatively and probably not for long and counter to the evidence).

Here’s @txst.edu warning passersby that there will be “expressive activity” on the Quad.

There was a small protest here earlier for Dr. Alter, who the university fired for — LOL — speech they didn’t agree with.

Giving a report on Anaximander as part of a series on “ancient” geographers for a history of geography course. Needed a good book, knew Carlo Rovelli had written one.

Immediately biked to @bookpeople.com and, of course, they had it on the shelf. Love this place so much.

Austin Pride moment that had me like “you know what? Sure.”
August 24, 2025 at 6:19 PM
Austin gets an unearned reputation for its progress sometimes. But then there are nights like last night: I biked home at 3:10 AM and I had varying company in the bike lane through every block of the ride home.

Other Texas cities probably wouldn’t even have the lane.

I took out my rage at the Texas Legislature on some weights today. Set new PRs across the board. So thanks for that, I guess.

Today in Waymos > human drivers:

1️⃣ For the 1st time, a car yielded to bikes (they’re supposed to) from the right turn lane.

2️⃣ A bike lane looks like it turns into a right turn lane, leading a Waymo into it. Before it finished changing, though, it saw me coming & adjusted into the correct lane.

This driver found the one small stretch of the 3rd St bikeway that no longer has barriers (thanks to The Republic being built) 🔪🔪🔪

Music Lane has been a problem since it opened. Cars park in the FIRE LANE so long as it’s also a bike lane.

The commercial vehicle is occupying the lane DESPITE PARKING RIGHT NEXT TO IT! And the guy wheeled around and shouted at me for reporting it!!!
August 10, 2025 at 12:18 AM
Bruh sometimes I am so tired of this city. SIX cars parked in the Congress bike lane between Music Lane and 6th.

I have submitted so many 311 requests for enforcement & asked for re-installing barriers where this batch is. (And was told a vendor request was submitted. No visible progress.)
