In the foothills of the Olympic Mountains on the Hood Canal in tiny Hoodsport Washington (population ~400) a whopping 62 people were out making their voices heard today!

When Reagan raised the contribution rate to create a surplus, the money was supposed to go into bonds to fund future payments. But they put the $$ in the general fund instead. The following administrations did the same until it was gone. It might be solvent now if they didn’t.

Perhaps Social Security would still be independently solvent if Reagan had invested the surplus in bonds (the original intent of the contribution increase) instead of sweeping it into the general fund, setting a precedent for future administrations that continued the practice until there was none???
