The original, rejected version of James drawn by Henry Davies, rejected for being too depressing.

Several other D. C. artists had a go and couldn't find the tone they'd been going for, and the character almost got scrapped when they let the recently-joined Tom Paterson have a go and he nailed it.

Originally marketed as being "for adults", although they had a change of heart midway through publication.

(The dice-on-page idea was later used for the 2002 reprints of the main Fighting Fantasy books.)

R: First ever full-colour edition of the Beano, dated 16/10/93.

Both fun takes on the same basic idea, but I think the Beano's is rather better.

Went through the issue of the Beano currently on sale and tried to work out, by date given on the issue's cover, when each strip in it debuted.

I don't know, it seemed like a good idea at the time.
