They even got a knock-off Howard Philips to host!
I like that they had to scape off the Nintendo logo from the cartridge cover of all the machines they show.

Does it have difficulty switches that change how much mud is removed with each swipe?

Samus Belmont and her laser whip?
And I love what Kraid has done with his hair!

Those people bought their kids Bubsy for Christmas, when their kids asked for Sonic, didn't they?

Let's wait until next week to tell them about the Sega Genesis...

But, like... How was this surprising to people in a Babbages in 1990? The store would've been divided into a dozen sections of completely incompatible software. You can't play your Nintendo "tapes" on a Commodore 64.

(Although someone managed to get full movies playing on the thing, thanks to a lot of tricks and specialized hardware... They're not 4K HDR quality, but they're impressive given the hardware.)

Of course, it's always going to be limited by what the Atari was capable of displaying. You'll always have to deal with color/sprite limitations, chunky pixels, and the strange way that it draws to the screen.

I think there are some more modern cartridges that just fake everything. They have additional RAM and also a CPU, so they can keep churning away on running game logic during all that time a regular Atari game had to spend drawing the screen.
November 30, 2025 at 5:47 AM
However, you'll be limited to only using 4K at a time, because that's all that would be addressable by the Atari CPU. Beyond that, you'd have to use bank switching tricks.

The Supercharger was a cassette tape-based add-on. It had something like 6KB of RAM, but I think most of it would have been used for storing the game loaded from tape. In theory, those games could be as big as you'd want, because you could just load more off the tape.

It sounds like GI Joe: Cobra Strike had a three player mode, with two players on paddles and a third using a joystick.
RAM usually isn't a huge deal when it comes to 2600 graphics, because your sprites and playfields are typically in ROM, which can be used directly without needing to load it in RAM.

The Jaguar could do better than Club Drive. Checkered Flag was smoother, faster, more detailed, and even had opponents to race against!
It also wasn't a huge leap in quality over Virtua Racing, either.
It's almost like the whole 64-bit "Do The Math" stuff was just empty hype or something...

*Except for the one he unfortunately lives in, but he has no idea that's a park and the ATB pass won't get you in because it can't be used as a bribe.

So, like... Can y'all Potemkin Village this? Say "Yes sir, your picture's on the card, sir", then what you actually send to the printers is a picture of Independence Hall? He'll never know. Neither he nor any of his lackeys have ever been to a National Park*, they're never going to see the pass.

"Or plow through an Old West town in a futuristic speed machine picking up randomly placed energy Powerballs? Strap in and join the 64-bit club!"

"Sure, you've always wanted to blaze down the streets of San Francisco in a souped-up hot rod, just like in those action movies. But have you ever wanted to scramble across the living room floor in a miniature racing car with a buddy?"
November 28, 2025 at 11:18 PM
Even the back of the box seems like it's trying to talk you out of playing the game.

"Own the fastest coupe on the Golden Gate... or the Kitchen Floor!"

Who makes a racing game and then forgets to add the racing part?

Still, it does have that music and that boxy cat, so it's not a complete loss...

The carpal tunnel inducing controllers and the ear-bleeding sound really didn't help it, either.
November 28, 2025 at 5:29 AM
Wait. Is it seriously going to have his fucking picture on it?

I get the feeling BSky is going to compress this, but here you go.
