Davey's little finger 🤚🥺🥺🥺
"What happened?" Davey looks down to where Safa's hand clutches at his own, focused on his little finger where the top knuckle is missing, severed a long time ago. He feels guilty for a moment for dirtying her fresh bandages--wrapped and tucked and pinning her own partially-amputated fingers together--but it's hard to linger on it when they're out of the danger-zone for now and the bandages are a sign that she made it out. "Shark attack," he replies easily, turning his hand over as her fingers trace the line of the scar down along the underside of his finger. He watches her eyes grow wider, almost in awe of the answer as she runs her finger up and down the straight surgical line. "Really?" She lifts her head, eyes bright and curious and disbelief taking hold as she sees the mirth in his own face, and she repeats it with accusation undercutting her tone. "Really?" "Okay, you got me. It was... not as fun as swimming with sharks." "Swimming with sharks sounds scary. Have you-- uh, swimmed with sharks?" A crooked smile tugs at his lips and he shakes his head lightly. "Never. This is the furthest I've ever gone away from home." He glances down at his uniform, stained with blood and dusty from the road. He's a long way from home now; a pilot without a plane, downed over a warzone and running humanitarian aid into active areas and pulling civilians out. Before he joined the RAF, he'd barely set foot outside of Sheffield if it wasn't for a music festival in a field or trailing his boss out to the small airfield that housed his Cessna for free flying lessons. Safa is quiet, playing over his fingers curiously, picking out the scars beneath the grime. He hadn't meant to stay with her--he never stays, too much to do, too much risk to linger too long--but he finds himself filling the chair her mother just vacated for little reason other than *'we match.'* In the dark room he'd found them in, Safa had held her injured hand out, tears cutting tracks down her cheeks as she showed him *'isbai'*, her fingers, severed at the top, and he had held his own out to show her his own missing limb with a comforting comradery that had slowed her tears and brought about more questions about himself than he ever expected.

All of my 'trail' wips are like "he trails off", "cuts a trail down skin" etc so I went with the word track instead 👣 here's part of my SHIELD!Candy and TF141 AU where Ghost sees Candy enjoying the rain and stays to watch.
Leaning back against the wall, he looks over the rainy field. There are muddy paths carved into the edges from years of running laps, blurred by the downpour bouncing from the ground and limiting visibility, and he spies movement by the far edge of the track. There are a few too many shadows where the lights have blown and not been replaced, all the priority going to the flood lighting on the perimeter of the site for the night watch, and he squints slightly as he watches the figure appear beneath one of the remaining lights. Candy pauses beneath the glare of the light, bending down to fold up the hem of her trousers one more turn so they sit above her ankle. Her feet are bare--boots hanging from one hand--and Ghost watches her shuffle her feet deeper into the mud as she stands up again, toes digging into the earth and the muck and thr *god-knows-what*. He steps forward with silent footsteps, the shadows still clinging to him even as he leans against the post at the edge of the path, rain dripping onto the toes of his boots and spray catching his arms where they fold across his chest.
