On Nov. 9, 1919, federal agents, led by Palmer and J. Edgar Hoover, targeted the Union of Russian Workers, arresting hundreds across several cities. The largest of the Palmer Raids occurred on Jan. 2, 1920, across 33 cities, resulting in thousands of arrests and mass detentions without bond. /5
