🦌as I sit here typing this out in desktop mode with stuff happening in the background just like it would be on a normal computer (like discord and stuff) playing silksong with absolutely no issues on the TV, I realize that the steam deck *might* be GOATed

🦌here's the problem I was trying to fix with an example from the video I'm watching right now. before running this command, the colors were so strongly contrasted that the background was just solid black and you couldn't tell it apart from his avatar like, they just melted into each other

🦌thanks to someone on mastodon, I was able to run "xrandr --output DisplayPort-0 --set "Broadcast RGB" "Limited 16:235"" and that fixed it

🦌I remembered the exact name of the setting, "full range" vs "limited range" and full range doesn't look right, but according to some guy on reddit the desktop mode only does full range. hmm

🦌got this problem in steam deck's desktop mode where the colors are really strong. this seems to like to happen in linux on our TV, and usually we can change the color space settings in the display options but it's absent here. we were able to fix it in game mode though?

... with an intel i3 5005U lol, so using this thing in desktop mode is like viewing a computer from an alternate dimension or something

🦌we saw on passmark how the steam deck's CPU was comparable to our desktop's CPU (ryzen 5 1600) but you can't really know something like that until you're using the desktop mode and going "wow uh, maybe our desktop is older than we thought lmao"

our GTX 1060 is still stronger though (maybe)

🦨(it took 6 months because we had the download limiter on lmao) but yea we can tell when it's working because the download speed goes from 1.1MB/s (our max) to like 69MB/s or higher, which is very nice

🦨anyways all that slowness from our internet earlier with the hassle of setting up the deck because of it is being offset by the fact that, a couple years ago, we got a 4TB hard drive and just downloaded all our steam games (took 6 months), to which the deck is going "wow, don't mind if I do!"

🦨playing blobun on the final puzzle on the TV and it did not slow down, despite not even playing the optimization update in the v1.1 beta. shield cat also didn't slow down, despite using the heaviest blur settings and oh so retro shaders. this thing might just be cracked out with graphics

🦨took it off the dock, it started up, did the setup process, skipped the installation thing it was stuck on before, and asked me to sign in to steam, and now it's acting like normally
