also the documentation is a different sort of mess than what I'm used to

and you definitely do need a config file since defaults are a bit silly:
- everyone is the same anonymous user
- anon has full read permissions for every file in & below the one you started the program in
- anon has write permissions and can make directories, but can only upload files ending in .md

the option to enable writing files via samba says "please don't"
January 18, 2026 at 7:43 AM
Currently setting up Copyparty on a spare laptop I have lying around and, wow, this thing has got a LOT of configuration options, and seemingly none of them can be set form the WebUI, you have to write a config file

I've heard of it a couple times, but I already had my samba and rsync and syncthing and ftp stuff set up for a while before I first heard of it, and I don't ever need to fix the things after updates or anything so I've never really looked into using it

Yeah Debian with Docker containers sounds fine, that's what I've been doing for a long time now and it hasn't given me too many issues.

That being said, I wasn't able to find a decent Docker image for server-side Samba (for Windows-compatible file sharing) or server-side Rsync (I use[...]

found the waterfox setting that was nuking my tabs
January 14, 2026 at 2:34 AM
really all I want is a firefox fork that filters out all of mozilla's stupid decisions and doesn't fuck with my settings when it updates. all signs indicate that this does not exist
January 14, 2026 at 1:59 AM
Zen: Appears to be, like, an actual real web browser, which is a first for today, but sometimes when I'm going through Wafrn's exploreLocal feed I see posts from some person using Zen talking about this or that setting they had to change to disable (absurd anti-feature here)

- Hüma: Never heard of it, don't like defaults shown in pictures, not updated in 1-2 years
- qutebrowser: Keyboard-based browser? I'm not that far gone yet
- NSCA Mosaic: This Is From 1996 Why Is It On Flathub
- FireDragon: Floop Fork? Firefox Fork Fork? I don't like these defaults either
January 14, 2026 at 1:53 AM
Results of looking for more browser options on flathub:
- Tor Browser: Super privacy-focused, so my least fav part of Librewolf but even more so
- Mulvad: See Above
- Yandex Browser: Russia, AI is 5th word in flathub description
- "Web": GNOME makes a web browser? That sounds horrible

I could've sworn that the waterfox flatpak was marked as unofficial in the Mint software manager like yesterday, why is it official now
January 14, 2026 at 1:42 AM
- Chromium: Chromium
- Firefox: AI Browser
- Floorp: Changes my settings on update
- LibreWolf: Nuked all my tabs
- Waterfox: STILL Nuking all my tabs!!!!
January 14, 2026 at 1:37 AM
also my damn tabs aren't reopening on startup again even though the "open previous windows and tabs" checkbox is on and the "delete cookies on shutdown" checkbox is off. Hate Hate Hate Why Can't I Just Get A Browser That Works
January 14, 2026 at 1:36 AM
ooooh, waterfox has inserted its website and social medias into my bookmarks, Absolutely Hate That Behaviour
January 14, 2026 at 1:34 AM
i was supposed to be asleep Three Hours Ago but noooo librewolf had to throw a fit today.
January 13, 2026 at 11:11 AM
Also, while I was trawling through my browsing history to try and find the tabs that LibreWolf nuked, the firefox library thing somehow managed to interpert something I did as "Bookmark every single page in this list of every page I've visited in this month", which was another fun (not fun) shock
January 13, 2026 at 11:03 AM
I open waterfox. Log into wafrn. Close the window and open it again. On the home tab instead of wafrn. Open my wafrn bookmark and I'm not logged in anymore. Settings still say "Open previous windows and tabs" is checked. I thought the flatpak was broken but not it was just stupid defaults
January 13, 2026 at 11:01 AM
switched browsers over this. Why on earth does WaterFox also have "Delete all your cookies and tabs when closing the browser hehe :)" on by default????? LibreWolf is like a super-privacy-focused thing or whatever, but WaterFox doesn't even have a notification for it

aw hell I forgot that the "external works" system exists and lets you put seemingly whatever links you want in your "this work was inspired by X" section. I might need to make a new database table about this, right after my big "OK That's Every DB Change I Can Possibly Think Of" update
January 12, 2026 at 10:26 AM
Oh, so that option in the settings menu uses the same system as the 'forgot password' thing on the login page so you consider them the same thing, OK that's understandable
January 11, 2026 at 10:47 PM
??? I just changed my password with the option in the settings menu (Settings -> Account -> Request a password change -> Change password) and it worked?
January 11, 2026 at 10:44 PM
so in order for it to pay attention to what files would've been added to lfs according to the settings in your .gitattributes you have to run it with --fixup. WHY IS THAT NOT THE DEFAULT?! THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF THE COMMAND
