As it is, and I don't have any sort of official figures to back this up so take with a grain of salt, I'd be amazed if the current junction got 100 cyclists a DAY, or in 5-10 years was expected to get much more than a few hundred cyclists a day.

I'd have had no issue getting my cargo bike through here albeit at 5mph instead of 15mph so it's hard to argue there's any real issue here. If, in 15 years, Bury has such a critical mass of non-standard cycles going through too slowly, it's not hard to replace kerbs to fit...

The reason will be that this junction was not designed with the cycle design vehicle making these turns at high speed in mind. This junction will, for the next few years, realistically see minimal cycle flows from regular cycles let alone cargo bikes et al.

...on me and I never noticed, or maybe Manchester just has fewer horseflies...

I've also never been bitten by a horsefly (thankfully from what I hear) although I wonder if living in Manchester most of my life is partially to do with that. Now I live in Lancs and walk across fields often I often see my partner swiping them off my back. Maybe previously they were always...

I did once wake up in a caravan in France with what I can only assume was an an asian hornet crawling between my fingers. I shook it off in panic and ran out and shut the door and never saw it again.

I think I've been stung by a wasp once, when I got into bed as a 5-7 year old or so and one was already under the covers and stung me. Other than that I've found that a calm disposition to them means, so far, I've never been stung by one since.

But as the article above says, lots of the data since then has been withheld

Last I looked into it the all lane running smart motorways were the least safe type of smart motorway but were still safer than non-smart motorways and dual carriageways.

Thankfully I brought the ebike...

Obvs using the old road from Bury to Rawtenstall not the dual carriageway.
November 8, 2025 at 8:49 PM
My mapping app is saying A56 through Bury and Rawtenstall and then A682 to Burnley. Are there any really hairy bits on this route?

Tickets should go down as the capacity is greater. In theory they should have been able to run more local trains on the old line but not now the Manchester and north trains still need to use it.
November 8, 2025 at 2:12 PM
It's a joke operators are considering scrapping perfectly good trains like the 323s because there's not enough lines for them to run on while other lines still have sprinters.

Yeah same fund. I can't comment on the Rossendale part of it as I don't know the area but the rest of the fund has been a complete waste of money for E.Lancs.

This is just 12 minutes longer than Glossop to Piccadilly which everyone accepts as being essentially part of GM with regards to rail, and indeed a few minutes shorter than Preston to Manchester.
November 7, 2025 at 11:44 PM
Fun map but feels weird to bring Preston and Blackburn into the GM zones and not Burnley which is only 46 mins out of victoria when operated by the current diesel sprinters let alone a future rolling stock.

LCC has really given East Lancs an incredibly poor offering while they give preston Cyclops junctions and other actually great stuff.

Are you referring to the "Hall Carr" works? I believe these are the same tranche of schemes that these horrendous Colne Road works belong to, as well as the really poor tinkering around the edges works in Colne itself.
