Unfortunately, a gay person is not going to be elected to the Presidency in the near future.

He wants to avoid the humility that he endured during his first term. Remember, back in 2017, he became the only POTUS to ever skip the Kennedy Center Honors since the event began, following threats by some of the 2017 honorees to boycott an accompanying White House reception.

Not me. They did far better this year than I expected them to do. Nix is a rookie. They will get better next year.

Agree. It was given to him to add his random capitalization, though.

Yes. I loved those uniforms. Change is not always for the better.
December 3, 2024 at 3:57 AM
Very, very wrong.
December 3, 2024 at 3:56 AM
Yes, but Hickenlooper is up for re-election in 2026. Maybe Polis thinks he can do a better job. Not sure what his angle is, but he must have one.
December 2, 2024 at 6:36 PM
I think Biden pretty much shot his legacy in the foot when he decided to run again in 2024. Huge mistake due to his ego not being able to accept that age catches up to everyone. And I’m exhausted with Dems taking the “high” ground.
December 2, 2024 at 7:42 AM
I would so love to see that!
December 2, 2024 at 7:37 AM
Odd, isn’t it? He made no comment (as far as I can tell) on Trump’s nomination of Kash Patel. Why the need to express himself on this?
December 2, 2024 at 7:23 AM
Polis knows a short, overweight, balding, gay Jewish guy is not going to be nominated for the ticket. I think he’s maybe thinking about a Senate seat and wants to reel in some moderates/independents.
December 2, 2024 at 7:21 AM
Bernie has been talking about cutting the defense budget for years. Not the same thing. Polis’ term is up in 2026. Maybe his thinking about challenging Hick for a Senate seat in 2026 and is angling for the “Independent” vote as well, although if he keeps this up, it may well backfire on him.

Chait asks: “Trying to break Hunter? And his father? To what end?”

As payback for Biden beating Trump in 2020. Trump knows he lost and if the only way he could hurt Biden is to cause so much trouble for Hunter that Hunter relapses, it would be sweet revenge for Trump. Yes, Trump IS that vindictive.
December 2, 2024 at 4:21 AM
An 82 year man who is going to leave the Presidency in about 50 days, pardoning his only living son, is nowhere near sinking to the level of MAGAts, IMO.
December 2, 2024 at 4:04 AM
Referring to the gun charges. They usually are not brought in cases like that.
December 2, 2024 at 4:01 AM
Nope IMO, Biden may well have intended to until Trump nominated Bondi and Katel. Their only criteria is absolute fealty to Trump suggesting the “legal process” would not play out fairly at all.

Biden has always been an institutionalist; pardoning Hunter does not change that or damage this country.
December 2, 2024 at 4:00 AM
And being ‘nice’/playing by the rules has gotten us nowhere. Trump lied repeatedly, tried to overturn the results of a fair election, fomented an attack on the Capitol and just won the election and has every intention of turning America into as much of an autocracy as he can.
December 2, 2024 at 3:54 AM
When Biden ran in 2020, he knew Hunter would be a target; that if he didn’t run, no charges would be brought against him. He chose his country over Hunter then because he believed he was the one who could beat Trump in 2020. And he did. Trump proved that “no man is above the law” is a joke.
December 2, 2024 at 3:50 AM
Trump was going to do that regardless of anything Biden said or did.
December 2, 2024 at 3:46 AM
His son is more than just his own personal interest. You KNOW that Bondi and Patel (if confirmed) would go after Hunter bigtime as a proxy for Trump’s personal vendetta for Joe beating him in the 2020 election. I’m glad he pardoned Hunter/proud of him finally putting family first.
December 2, 2024 at 3:45 AM
How does pardoning Hunter conflict with Biden’s defense of his country? I’m at a loss to understand that.
December 2, 2024 at 3:35 AM
If I remember correctly, he was told by some fellow Republicans that there were enough votes to impeach and convict. To avoid actually being convicted and removed by the Senate, he resigned.
November 26, 2024 at 4:47 AM
Yes. Also incomprehensible is that they looked with nostalgia at the lower prices under Trump in 2017-2019 (pre-pandemic) without realizing he was handed a solid economy by Obama, and that Trump handed Biden an economic mess because of Covid.
November 23, 2024 at 3:17 AM
Mine too. Been a long time since I read it.
November 22, 2024 at 2:57 AM
In July of 2022, he lifted the state’s mask mandate, even in schools. He left it up to individual cities and counties. I supported that. He is a bit of a maverick, but IMO, he’s doing a good job.
