The thing that still pisses me off about dark forest theory is that it is predicated on the inability to coordinate, and you know say have a society.

I’d bet many are (like us) dreaming of ethical ad markets for years?

But I currently believe their emergence ALSO needs UI paradigm shift: the way we are asked to look at them must ‘feel’ different. More Respectful?

Eg: Want to introduce new kind of tax? Offer ‘more direct mandate’ on their use :)

Is the claim ‘Establishing an Ethical Ad Market hasn’t been tried before’?

IMO ads are based on limiting agency, without official ‘make ad vanish by donating’ buttons I cannot imagine it.

But biggest obstacle seems to me the general anti-ad ethics within WP communities.

Fondly remember how enticing it felt to me when my fav iOS podcatcher had flattr integration.

Automated microfunding = no cognitive buying decision problem.

IMO, the claim ‘ads are the only micropayment scheme that is known to work at scale‘ should include a big fat ‘,YET’.

I wonder if @hennavirkkunen.bsky.social is aware that adversarial interoperability is key to tech sovereignty?

And if so, what is her plan to increase the chances of being able to enforce it against the power of giants?
