It's frustrating that in order for such a system to be effectively articulated we need a cohesive 60 seat majority in the Senate and a non-activist SCOTUS.

There is a point in the consolidation of authoritarian power where public opinion no longer matters, only the concentration of power. 47 in typical fashion is trying to make the claim prior to the fact. We have to demonstrate that our opinion still matters. Part of that is showing up to be counted.

The only thing preventing 47 from pardoning Maxwell is fear that it would be a tipping point for his conspiracy-addled base Conversely, not pardoning her might cause her to point the finger at him. I'd imagine maximum pressure is being exerted to keep her quiet.

Trump is learning that attention is a double-edged sword. You can't explicitly distract from something without naming it.
