Got it, and to be fair I don't think I ever said to a teacher 'citation needed'. I hope you'll agree that it's a bit of a stretch to go from the mention in the Vindolanda tablets of wine (which could have come from anywhere in the Roman world), to surmising that they were growing grapes by the wall!

Do you have a source for that by any chance?

I've seen that claim made a few times (e.g. this week by a Durham councillor) and looked online for supporting evidence, but never seen any.

This map (The Winelands of Britain, Richard Selley) suggests a line from the Humber to the Bristol Channel.
