Because it's like trying to exist in two places at once. Adopting more hate doesnt incorporate or mellow out anyone already angry, it just means you're giving up your principles.

I remember our civics classes, they always put forward that debating isn't simply picking a viewpoint or argument that's most appealing, its having a topic, presenting the facts and debating why YOUR plan or argument works best.

The issue I'm seeing with every politician trying to appeal to the far right is that they're misunderstanding the assignment completely.
If you want law, order, fairness, empathy, and respect to succeed , you have to uphold them as principles. Not to capitulate. No adoption of hate and fear.
