That time I got to speak with Neil deGrasse Tyson about industrial design on StarTalk!

Some renewable energy / solar power good news. Solar is expected to become the worlds largest source of electricity by 2033 🌞

A great value for what?

Morning coffee in the Central Eastside Industrial District of Portland at Water Avenue Coffee with @jamesowendesign.bsky.social ... a sunny day and a cappuccino with the Polestar 2 right up front. Caffeine + EV ☕️🚗⚡️⚡️⚡️

I had a MR2 & a Matrix... bought both new, both manuals, and they both sounded like driving an empty coffee can with a thousand angry bees inside. 🤣 It took a lot to get that 4 cyl to do much. The MR2 had the coveted combination of light weight & 50/50 weight distribution but that only goes so far.

And on top of the specs, the thing just looks so good! I’m really confused why someone would even entertain a BZ4x or Solterra… or even an Equinox. I’m very happy they got EVs but it bumps me out that they paid so much for something with worse specs that isn’t even iconic or interesting.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes 🤣 … blocked him.

This person literally started a BlueSky account to post that reply? 🤣

spotted charging while walking Enzo. What is the best EV on sale in the United Stares and why is it the Hyundai Ioniq 5? 🙃😊🚗⚡️🔌
d2lo.bsky.social
Thanks for the facts!

I really don’t understand all these folks on BlueSky who are super Toyota fans. I’ve owned 2 Toyotas. Both manuals. Both extremely reliable but otherwise abysmal cars.

It has never been a cool brand outside of randomly having a couple of cool models here and there.

No, they also make other non competitive EVs in other markets as well 🤣 …. Maybe someday they’ll catch up but doesn’t look likely in the next 5 years.
d2lo.bsky.social
Probably, but we are small car people. Our current EVs (Ioniq 5 and Polestar 2) are the biggest cars we've had (other than an Audi S5). Our favorite gas cars we have owned were a MK1 TT and a Mini so some small options would be welcome!

And I'm sure very few US auto journalists would talk about the short range, slow charging, and terrible software of said Toyota...

It is really wonderful to see a company let their engineers and designers really dig into and solve problems. This vehicle is a real system level product solution.
d2lo.bsky.social
seems like they might have hit a home run with this.
d2lo.bsky.social
Very bizarre, and then they doubled down and gave a lot of money to republicans in the last election cycle to try to slow the adoption of EVs. Not a good look.
d2lo.bsky.social
Totally agreed. Yet it seems to me like a lot of US automotive journalism likes to underplay them or give them backhanded compliments in reviews. The UK reviewers seem to get it more.
d2lo.bsky.social
Hopefully it makes it here given everything going on, but that just seems like such an excellent car!
d2lo.bsky.social
I love that as well. This vehicle is just incredibly well thought through as a system. You can tell the designers and engineers really wanted to solve problems.

As my old boss used to say "you can't always be on year one of a brand new 5 year plan, at some point you have to move to year 2" ... Hyundai/Kia seem well on their way with their strategic EV plans.

Review of the Kia PV5. Really no one outside of the Chinese brands seem even close to Hyundai/Kia. The benefit of committing to an EV strategy and executing vs flapping in the breeze like a lot of other manufacturers seem to be. youtu.be/wyu_V-T4p98?...

These days spreading kindness feels like rebellion. My partner & I helped organize a neighborhood fall festival in Portland yesterday. We had baby goats, a baking competition judged by Britt Huff, founder of Keeper Coffee, a bouncy house, a makers market… it was great to see everyone come together.
