I think that’s a very valid point. Also, I wasn’t really loving the game on a surface-level so I may have been more impatient with the narrative and let certain things pass me by.

Btw - not disagreeing with your overall point. I do think implied violence can be more haunting and powerful than gratuitous depiction. I’m definitely skipping horses.

I don’t know. I like movies like Mulhulland Drive that don’t spell things out and are open to interpretation, but Mouthwashing was a huge miss for me.

Maybe I’m just an idiot, but after I finished Mouthwashing, I started reading up on what it all meant and my reaction was “how was I hell was I supposed to extrapolate that?”. It requires a lot of reading between the lines and jumping to conclusions. Again, maybe it was obvious and im just slow.

The show is incredible, and while the title is a perfect encapsulation of the shows literal plot and thematic elements, it also terrible 😂

It sounds like the alien household appliance from Rick and Morty.

My favorite example of this was “The Carwash” on Mortal Kombat (X? 11?) where a T-posed character would slowly move through a series of particle emitters, each one causing a specific type of damage - cuts, stabs, burns, gashes, ice, etc. so we could test damage models on characters.

Same! Around the time it came out, I went to Tower Records (!) looking to get a new book to read. I decided to walk down the aisle dragging my hand across the all books and just pick one at random without looking and buy it. It was House of Leaves. It made the book 10x creepier. Unforgettable.

I think they *used* to engage with them. Freedom Cry was pretty groundbreaking back in the day.

100%. It’s always either “I want to be able to do that” or “I could do better than that”
