Yeah maybe, it's just a hunch. Howard seems to still struggle during puck battles, while Tomasek and Savoie seem better at it.

I could very well be wrong though. He has had a pretty good camp.

Yeah, I don't think any of us are cap experts...lol.

Gregor reported they can't send Savoie down. I'm guessing he would've checked, but who knows.

My guess. Tomasek, Jones and Lazar will be sent down. Then after Hyman is on LTIR, Tomasek and Lazar will be called up and Howard will be sent down.

As I understand it, if Savoie isn't on the opening roster, Savoie's 1 million bonus would count against the cap if he is called up this year. If Savoie is on the opening roster, his bonus won't count against the cap. So it seems unlikely he would be sent down.

Check out this chart. I wanted to know, is it true that players are not signing this year?

The past 4 years, by Oct 1, 6-9 players signed with more than a 6.5% cap hit. This year, there was only 1, Kaprizov.

Now that Kaprizov signed (and Hughes Oct 1), will the dominoes fall?

- How can you tell Savoie is making the team? He played the most minutes out of any Oilers forward
- With so many players sick, the loss was expected
- I'm guessing Leppanen and Hutson will be sent down to Bako

If the Rookie games determined roster spots:
- Savoie has a chance to make the Oilers
- Howard needs time with Bako
- Day will be in Bako
- Jonnson to the ECHL

Forwards were good. Goalies were as expected. Defense....oof. Bowman needs to look at rookie defense for next season

Matt Savoie spent the summer training with #Oilers staff to improve his strength and conditioning. And in the first rookie game, it really showed. He was easily the best player on the ice.

Hopefully he's playing in today's game too.

Is it odd that McDavid hasn't signed yet?

Let's look at some data. Looking at the top 3 UFA signings for the last 3 seasons, it's actually normal for someone like McDavid to not be signed yet.

So when should #Oilers fans worry? January.

But for now? Seems premature.

So why wouldn't McDavid sign an 8 year deal? The new CBA will not only remove the 8 year deals, but put limits on signing bonuses, which have tax advantages.

Why not sign an 8 year deal, take most of it in a signing bonus, then make more money with investments?

Seems odd this is not talked about.
