"Trickle-Down Economics"

Counterpoint: The way Ray's left hand kept a steady beat, while his right hand was jamming away with all these intricate, syncopated organ licks — it's superhuman!

The bass lines on Light My Fire and Riders On The Storm, e.g., may be "Simple" but playing them together certainly wasn't *EASY!*

I stopped, however, because they started to figure out, "That's not Santa; it's just a guy DRESSED UP as Santa..." and some were starting to make the leap: "Wait a minute, they're *ALL* just guys dressed up as Santa!" and I didn't want to be That Dad! «sorry!»

One year, I dressed up as Santa for Halloween... Kids would ring the doorbell and say "Trick Or Treat" then I'd open the door and say, "Ho Ho Ho!" You should have seen the looks of cognitive dissonance on their faces! 🧑‍🎄

Maybe the so-called Christians who want to take us back to "the way things used to be" should be fed to the lions.

As immortalized in the song "(I Want A) Death By Misadventure"

[I want to...] "be on a bus that crashed into a train, just like Ozzy Osbourne did!

"No, man, that was Randy Rhoads, and it was an airplane.

"Plane into a train, cool!!"

If I had it to so over again, I'd make CSI 99 push the entire color/bold/reverse/etc. state, and CSI 109 pop it all back off.
December 2, 2025 at 12:52 PM
My "wish list" feature — which I implemented as CSI 99/109 in a custom project a while back — to "pop" the current FG/BG color off a stack:

msg=$'\e[31mRED\e[99m'
printf "\e[34m>>>%s<<<\e[m\n" "$msg"

So both ">>>" and "<<<" would be blue, rather than "\e[0m" or "\e[39m" to reset it.

I know it's non-standard, and reading back from the TTY can be finicky, but FWIW, iTerm2 (Mac) offers extended OSC 4 escape sequences to query the RGB values of the background and foreground colors:

iterm2.com/documentatio...

printf "\e]4;-2;?\a" # BG
printf "\e]4;-1;?\a" # FG
Proprietary Escape Codes - Documentation - iTerm2 - macOS Terminal Replacement
iTerm2 is a replacement for Terminal and the successor to iTerm

A buddy pointed out that Genesis perfected the ability to create albums with one or two absolute smash hits (which kept the record company execs happy) while their hearts were 100% "Capital-A 'Art'"

I grew up in Maryland, which has similar rules, and I decided it was more "impactful" to register as a Republican, then vote Democrat in the general election, versus always voting along party lines... (And I could always vote for a throw-away candidate in the primaries.)

I feel like this was a relic of manual typesetting machines; i.e., a thicker double-quote made it easier to hold a thinner period in place, or some such.
