Hey all, I'm trying to get a baseline for how good people are at detecting whether fiction is AI-generated or human-written (most of the research on this is for nonfiction and my hypothesis is we're better with fiction).

I just looked at your route and it’s almost identical to mine. It seems I just wasn’t looking for it, because I’ve been riding past it for a while! That Decew Rd climb is I think my least favourite ever. You can avoid it with the right tires by cutting through Short Hills.

Yeah. I think it was the second or third episode where I thought specifically about the rhetorical/artistic value and decided you could achieve both, probably more effectively, without forcing your audience to passively sit through it.

To be clear, I *love* this proposal. I also (personally) would be okay with some diversions onto non-arterials. I’ve just heard so many arguments for it that don’t hold up.

Yeah - I think we really need to help people understand that most of the arguments against proper infra are, like this one, not coming from a serious place. It’s a bit shocking that an otherwise sensible plan puts so much stock in what’s basically right wing obstructionism.

I agree with almost everything in this memo, but preferring bike lanes on non-arterials a) doesn’t help people on bikes who need to go to places on arterials, b) indicates that their needs aren’t as important as motorists’ and c) won’t satisfy many of those arguing for it.

It’s been more than a year, but it still freaks me out that I grew up in this house.
St Catharines Standard article from May 2024 titled “Two people found dead in St. Catharines home; one person in custody” Police were called to a Queenston Street home near Lorne Street on Thursday morning… Photo of my childhood home, a large gray house with white trim, with a large front yard with many trees. There’s police tape across the driveway.

I’ve learned it’s also the only thing that stokes motorist rage at people on bikes more than not stopping at stop signs.
