🚨 The UK government just published a breakdown of the responses to its consultation on AI & copyright:

- 95% of respondents want AI companies to pay for their training data (made up of 88% saying strengthen copyright law, & 7% saying leave it as is)

Happy cheese-eating singing horse ghost to all who celebrate.
It’s the right time of year for this creature design inspired by the Welsh tradition of Mari Lwyd.

This is a lovely review and shows the bit I love most about running a small Etsy shop for my art: Making peoples' day with my drawings feels great. ❤️🫶

someone said "I want to be able to draw but I didn't want to learn anatomy." The desire to draw is your catalyst towards learning more about the world around you so that you may replicate it. It's not just anatomy but geology, botany, zoology, meterology, everything you learn helps you draw better

Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays:

Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink.

If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business.

Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.

I like to write a short story ~800 words that sets up the character's premise going into the adventure... There's no time to build something big and extravagant, but you can get the first domino to fall.

And I reread it to remind myself of the character's voice after a long gap between sessions.
I hate long backstories. The most interesting thing about your character should not have already happened to them.

Tell me who your character is, how they learned to do what they do, why they're prepared to die for whatever quest they're on, and give me a detail or two I can build on.
I know I am in the minority, but I actually really dislike writing character back stories.

A few of us designers have been privileged to follow along while @stoutstoat.co.uk chipped away at this project for the last few years.

It's something new. An interactive history book like the kind you'd maybe read as a kid, but with the combined powers of archaeology and game design.
Game designers bring to life to Scotland's mysterious Picts
Writers and archaeologists also worked on a new guide to a lost early medieval Scottish society.

So many books have influenced me, and I think it's honestly rare the book that doesn't at least entertain me (when I get the reading mojo/time&focus, which was plentiful in my tween & teenage years) 1/2
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

"why don't you lie down on the sofa while daddy finishes his tea, then we'll go to the park"

Literally the most successful attempt at a nap (still no sleep, but staying still! Lying down even!) since the cot sides came off this kid's bed.

#bluey fandom time to get some epic crossover Fanart on the go!

Been thinking about this all day so here we go.

Bluey = Mario. Obviously. Main character, title character. Not a lot of ground to cover here.

Bingo = Luigi. For the reasons Dan mentions.

I wrote a massive TTRPG setting guide encyclopaedia about the ancient Scotland and the Picts who lived in it. It covers everything scholars currently know about life in the 7th century, from landscapes to kingdoms to faith, magic, settlements, and so much more.
