A trail of apple chunks from my daughter led me right to her 😂😂. Most may put the chunks in the trash. I say compost everything you can.

Stale tortilla chips are a great addition for your #compost! Usually your #kitchenscraps bin is quite moist. At least ours is! Adding #stalechips or #stalebread help soak up the extra moisture.

Drinking tea or coffee is a daily routine for most people. Composting the tea or coffee grinds can also become a daily routine. It is in our house!

I made a delicious #chickenbroth after #thanksgiving that my wife straight drank out of a teacup☕! She even asked for seconds😍!!
After making the broth, I strained the scraps and put them in my #kitchenscraps bin. When this bin gets full, I bring it out to my #reencle system

A little glimpse of how I’m using compost to help my garden beds in Wichita stay healthy through the winter.

It's time to use the rest of my compost mix to enrich my backyard soil, prepare my garden for next year and make some room in my bin for a new batch of food scraps that will turn into new compost.

I really don’t like throwing food away, but these green beans—bought for our Thanksgiving dinner and never used—didn’t make it. They spoiled… but at least they’ll get a second life feeding my compost bin!

As I continue getting the backyard ready for winter, I took a moment to tackle the cattails that spread through my garden this past summer. 🌾

Here I'm handling my compost mix – moving it from my tall bins, where it spent weeks breaking down, to my wheelbarrow and from there, to my garden beds. Prep for next spring starts now! #wintergardening #gardenbed

Another freeze wave will hit Wichita, so I picked most of my tomatoes and brought them inside to ripen in the kitchen. 🍅❄️
The final harvest of the season — so exciting!

I’m so proud of our little pond! The fish we introduced a few months ago have already multiplied and turned into a big, lively school 🐟✨ And since the pond is a bit deep — about 2.5 ft — they’ll be able to make it through Wichita’s winter just fine. ❄️💙

How do you decide which plants should share the same garden bed? 🤔 This year, we tried pairing mint with tomatoes — and here’s what happened...

My raspberry plants are on a mission… and that mission is to take over my entire garden! 😅
It’s amazing to see plants popping up in unexpected corners of my backyard.

I’ve been spending some time on fall cleanup in my garden, and this week I tackled my raspberry plants, a couple of apple trees, and the cantaloupe vine bed.

Remember how my lilies bloomed in the middle of spring this year? Now it’s time for some cleanup, but I’m being careful not to pull out the bulbs, so they can grow back next year. Here’s how I do it:

I spent the day tidying up my garden as fall’s cooler temperatures set in. 🌿🍂 I try to create as little waste as possible, collecting all the dried stems, leaves and roots to feed our compost bins.

We just had a freeze wave here in Wichita and I had to act fast to ensure I can still do one last round of harvesting before the season ends. ❄ 🍅

How do you protect your garden from cold snaps and frost?

Loved the feedback on my post about shrink-wrapped cucumbers! Some people shared that the wrap can extend shelf life by 14 days, but I haven't seen that happen at home. Maybe it depends on how long produce sits in the supply chain?
What's your experience? 🥒✨

Thanksgiving is around the corner, and as we prep the feast, I just wanted to share a reminder: those potato peels, rotten cranberries and pumpkin seeds can all find a second life in your compost bin. 🍂♻️

While my kids enjoy their fluffy, sweet Saturday-morning pancakes, I get my own little joy—tossing the leftover crumbs straight into the compost bin! From my toddler’s highchair tray to the kitchen compost bin it goes. 🥞

Not all plastic bags belong in the trash! 🌱 Many, like this brown sugar bag, can actually be recycled. But instead of tossing them in your curbside recycling, return them to the store. Look for the recyclable symbol on the packaging to be sure! ♻️ #recyclingplastic #recyclingtips #sustainableliving

Before tossing a jar that once held something sticky into the recycling bin, it's recommended to give it a good rinse to improve material recovery.
But cleaning sticky jars can be a real challenge. 🥜🍫
Here’s my simple trick — all you need is hot water and a little shaking power… ♻️💪

I know… who drinks coffee at 6 PM, right?! ☕️ But sometimes you just need a little extra boost in the middle of the day. So here I am, brewing a cup—and giving my compost bin some quality coffee grounds at the same time!
