“Corpo slop”: Owner of Galaxy Ring that caused ER visit shares Samsung’s investigation results. Users aren’t reassured
The tech fan whose Samsung Galaxy Ring painfully swelling on his finger last year has shared what may be the final update in the saga. After separate investigations by Samsung and a third-party agency, the company says the incident was caused by a cracked internal moulding and insists there’s no broader battery safety risk. But with no clear explanation for why the crack happened and lingering reports of battery issues, many Galaxy Ring owners say the response feels more like damage control than reassurance. ## Samsung Galaxy Ring swelling update On Wednesday, X user Daniel (@ZONEofTECH) posted Samsung's statement after the company and a third-party agency completed their separate investigations. Samsung claims both reached the same conclusion, which is that your Galaxy Ring probably won't blow up. "Following an examination by Samsung and then a further analysis by an independent external agency, it was confirmed that the swelling in Daniel’s Galaxy Ring was caused by a crack in the internal moulding and that there was no wider product battery safety risk," the statement reads. https://twitter.com/ZONEofTECH/status/2008996347572064593 Though the tech company seems to claim that there is no wide-reaching battery defect that could cause this to happen to other people, Daniel noted that "the exact cause of the internal moulding crack could not be determined." This remains troubling for fellow Galaxy Ring owners in light of other reports of battery issues. "I’m aware that some of you have reported battery life/performance issues, with some users experiencing only a few hours of usage rather than the advertised multi-day battery life," Daniel added. "I raised this directly with Samsung as well, and they advised that anyone experiencing problems should contact Samsung Customer Support, so cases can be reviewed individually." Samsung's wider history of exploding products doesn't help. ## "Just some corporate word salad" When Daniel first posted about the Galaxy Ring issue last year, the idea of the item tightening on a finger until doctors had to get it off proved pure nightmare fuel for many. Some commenters vowed to avoid the ring and any like it forever, assuming the lithium battery was the problem. While Samsung claimed this isn't so, its inability to figure out why Daniel's ring cracked failed to renew faith in the product. "Not sure about you but that does NOT provide any confidence in continuing use of the Galaxy Ring," said @theonecid. @theonecid/X "What a bunch of corpo slop they sent you," wrote @BrunoPresents. Some think that Daniel never should have sent the ring back to Samsung in the first place, accusing the company of making things up to cover their butts. @AussieGamr/X "If you get injured by a product, don’t give the product back to the company," @AussieGamr advised. "You just let them figure out their legal defence for 3 months." @leo_kakashiii/X "That statement was written by their legal team," said @leo_kakashiii. "Just some corporate word salad to keep you off their scent, and apparently, it worked." * * * **_The internet is chaotic—but we’ll break it down for you in one daily email. RFK unveils a new upside-down food pyramid. “South Park” saw it coming over a decade ago
The Trump administration on Wednesday unveiled a new food pyramid for the United States, and people online said there was something strangely familiar about it. The White House called it the "most significant reset of federal nutrition policy." However, the internet quickly focused on the visuals. Namely, that the guidance graphic was an upside-down pyramid, which immediately reminded people of an old _South Park_ joke. ## RFK's new Food Pyramid revealed The new design prioritized protein, healthy fats, and whole foods. At the same time, it pushed whole grains, ultra-processed food, and sugar to the bottom. The old food pyramid, which dated back to the 1990s, had grains and cereals on the bottom, fruits and vegetables in the middle, and dairy and meat products near the top, with fats and sugars. https://twitter.com/WhiteHouse/status/2008938280658534905 The administration presented the guidance as a dramatic shift in how Americans should eat. Instead of centering grains, the upside-down pyramid places proteins, vegetables, fruits, dairy, and healthy fats at the top. Meanwhile, sugar and ultra-processed foods sat at the narrow base. Officials framed the update as a reset of health in the U.S. Still, critics and fans alike focused on how familiar it looked to a _South Park_ joke in the episode titled "Gluten Free Ebola." In that episode, the USDA flipped the food pyramid to fix public health overnight. ## _South Park_ did it first Online reactions were varying stages of disbelief and amusement. Immediately, some shared screenshots and videos of a 2014 _South Park_ episode in which a team of scientists offers a solution to the food pyramid, essentially flipping it. Alongside RFK's demand to stop vilifying healthy fats, it was pretty accurate. South Park Studios via Comedy Central "HAHA there’s an old _South Park_ episode where they flipped the food pyramid upside down to 'stabilize nutrition' and save America," @ConsciousSTRG tweeted. They added, "RFK Jr. just posted a satire clip of that episode with himself in it for his new food guidelines 🤣" @ConsciousSTRG/X Others leaned into the joke, like @ATLSloan who wrote, "As prophesied by @SouthPark over a decade ago.. We finally flipped the food pyramid!!" https://twitter.com/ATLSloan/status/2008951496012951798 Similarly, @JeremyCheehan posted, "They just did the _South Park_ episode. #MAHA 'The food pyramid. It’s upside down.'" @JeremyCheehan/X ## Social media thought it was bizarrely hilarious It wasn't just the _South Park_ episode that people latched on to. Senator Jacky Rosen (@SenJackyRosen) quote retweeted a post from the New York Post about Dr. Oz telling people not to drink alcohol for breakfast. She said, "Has he flagged this for @PeteHegseth?" https://twitter.com/SenJackyRosen/status/2008980874591916143 Meanwhile, @Acyn shared a Fox News exchange revisiting Michelle Obama’s "food deserts" comments. "We take it all back. She is right," Laura Ingraham said during the clip. https://twitter.com/Acyn/status/2009063526565122064 Other users questioned the presentation itself. @_kentw posted screenshots of realfood.gov, asking, “You’re telling me this is a government website?” @_kentw/X One long thread from @anudestination tied it all together. She recalled Cartman’s dream about Aunt Jemima flipping the pyramid and wrote, "Well… today, RFK Jr. just announced the new official US dietary guidelines and it’s literally an upside-down food pyramid." She then added, "_South Park_ made predicted this 12 years ago!!! Trey and Matt are prophets. 😂" * * * **_The internet is chaotic—but we’ll break it down for you in one daily email. “That’s a war crime”: KFC brings poutine to America (Canadians are judging)
TikTok creators are putting KFC’s newest $5 bowl to the test after the fast-food chain rolled out a U.S. take on poutine, complete with fries, chicken nuggets, cheese curds, and gravy. Matty's Cheesy Nuggy Gravy Bowl, developed in partnership with Canadian chef and actor Matty Matheson, has some TikTok reviewers calling it calling it one of the best items KFC has ever released. Others (Canadians, in particular) are questioning whether it even qualifies as poutine at all. "KFC knows value and flavor, and we wanted to bring that energy to lunch," Matheson said in a press release from the restaurant. "Something warm and bold and comforting. It's the kind of food you crave and can't stop thinking about." @eatsbynat/TikTok ## “KFC’s new poutine is of the best things on the menu” TikTok creator Natalie Ludwig, @eatsbynat, tried Matty's Cheesy Nuggy Gravy Bowl in a clip shared on Jan. 6 2026. “The bowl is a layer of crispy fries piled high with golden nuggets and layered with coated cheese curds, topped with a rich pour of gravy,” she said. Ludwig, who said she’s never tried poutine before, took a bite from the bowl. > @eatsbynat KFC Poutine is finally here! 🍟🧀 @KFC #kentuckyfriedchicken #kfcpoutine #poutine #kfc ♬ original sound - Natalie Ludwig “Oh, my gosh gotta be one of the best cheese curds I've ever had in my entire life… I need to experience this again immediately,” she said. “This gotta be one of the best items I've ever had from KFC and it's literally only $5.” TikTok creator @shalyn.b reviewed the bowl, rating the gravy 5 out of 5, the cheese curds 4 out of 5 for being "squeaky" (which she deems a "good sign"), and the fries (which are well-known to not be KFC's strong suit) a 2.5 out of 5. Overall, she rates the bowl 4.5 out of 5, second only to Harvey's, a Canadian chain specializing in poutine. > @shalyn.b POUTINE series pt 9! KFC! #poutine #kfc #carlunch #asmr #foryou #fyp @KFC Canada ♬ original sound - Shalyn Meanwhile, @kennyeatzz says the combination of ingredients works "really well" but the cheese curds "could've been a little more crispy" and "not as good as Culver's." He gave the bowl an overrall 8 out of 10, but said with his "modifications" (mac and cheese on top), it bumps the score up to a 9 out of 10. > @kennyeatzz KFC NEW Poutine Bowl @KFC #kfc #fastfood #foodreview #poutine #kentuckyfriedchicken ♬ original sound - Kenny ## "Where's the gravy?" commenters weigh in People reacting to the post expressed confusion about the gravy. One commenter told Ludwig, “You neee to try a real poutine.” @aishahatesstupid/TikTok “Where is the gravy?” “The gravy should be on top.” “where is the gravy that's a war crime to call it poutine.” @lynnnnnnss/TikTok, @robles0724/TikTok, @ryan.mackinnon0/TikTok ## KFC's $5 bowls KFC introduced Matty's Cheesy Nuggy Gravy Bowl, along with four other affordable bowls, to solve the rising cost of lunch by reclaiming the midday meal with $5 bowls in 2026. The Colonel’s collab with Matheson is meant to start the new year off right with comfort food meant for intentional indulgence at one affordable price. According to a 2025 market survey of 2000 U.S. adults cited in the chain's press release, 41% of people wish their lunch was more affordable. Nearly one in three people who purchase lunch say they feel annoyed when they pay more than $15 for a weekday lunch. KFC’s other $5 bowls include their Mac & Cheese Bowl, Mashed Potato Bowl, and spicy versions, Spicy Mac & Cheese Bowl and Spicy Mashed Potato Bowl. * * * **_The internet is chaotic—but we’ll break it down for you in one daily email. “The resistance can be subtle”: Clever solution for National Park passes with Trump’s face on them goes viral
For those unaware, America the Beautiful National Parks passes received a redesign that upset many visitors. Instead of award-winning park photography, the card design now features President George Washington’s portrait and a headshot of President Donald Trump. Back in December, artists had already responded with stickers meant to cover the design without covering pertinent information. However, that workaround has since run into trouble. A new policy announcement warned that covering the card could invalidate it, leading people to search for another option. ## Updated card design and policy changes An internal email sent to National Park Service staff outlined how altered passes should be handled. The message, written by department business specialists Allison Christofis and Jeff Beauchamp, was later shared with SFGATE by an anonymous employee. "Defacing the pass in any way, including writing on it or adding stickers or other coverings, is a form of altering the pass," the policy read. It also explained that alterations could hide security features needed to prevent fraud. DOI.gov/Adobe Stock Elizabeth Peace, who is a senior public affairs specialist with the Interior Department, expanded on the change in an email to SFGATE. "[The changes] provided additional clarification to help avoid confusion and support visitor interactions due to the volume of questions received from staff and visitors," she said. The new policy guidance left room for discretion, however, meaning that staff members could decide whether to accept an altered pass if security features remained visible. These security features include a mountain-shaped foil hologram, microtext, and the word "interagency" printed in invisible ink. ## An artist’s solution to the change TikToker Mitchell Bowen (@recollection_project) proposed a different approach. Bowen, known for designing vintage-style travel posters for every U.S. state, introduced a transparent sleeve for park passes with a painting design that covers the presidents' images. @recollection_project/TikTok Instead of adhering to the card directly, the sleeve slips over it, concealing the Trump portrait without violating policy. Bowen shared the idea in a TikTok that quickly gained attention, with over 99K views and 17.3K likes. "I have a solution for these new National Park passes if you still want yours to feature a beautiful National Park design," he said in the video. He added that the sleeves were available on his website and that part of the proceeds went to the National Park Foundation. The video caption explained the intent in detail. "After recent announcements that stickers can invalidate park passes, I designed this transparent Parks Pass Sleeve as a safe way to personalize and protect your pass while keeping it fully accessible and valid," Bowen wrote. The sleeve featured hand-drawn artwork celebrating the American bison and the country’s parks. > @recollection_project Protect and Customize your America the Beautiful National Parks Pass—without risking its validity 🦬 After recent announcements that stickers can invalidate park passes, I designed this transparent Parks Pass Sleeve as a safe way to personalize and protect your pass while keeping it fully accessible and valid. Featuring a hand-illustrated design celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the home of some of the most incredible National Parks and the American Bison, our national mammal, it’s a practical accessory made for park lovers and adventurers alike. "THAT'S the new card?!? Thank you for your service," one person wrote. Another commented, "The resistance can be subtle. Great job!" A third added, "I love that your version is actually compliant with the standard, featuring a real National Park." In an email to the Daily Dot, Mitchell Bowen explained the reasoning behind the product: "The United States is home to some truly incredible parks and wild spaces. I hope to share their beauty while helping protect them through awareness and contributions toward their preservation." He also spoke to the viral rise of his idea, saying, "Thank you to everyone for all of the kind words and support for my work on the new National Park Pass sleeves." * * * **_The internet is chaotic—but we’ll break it down for you in one daily email. “3rd voided passport video I’ve seen”: Americans are landing abroad only to learn their passports were quietly canceled
American travelers are sharing alarming stories after discovering their valid passports had been flagged as lost or stolen...only after they’d already arrived overseas. In multiple cases across different countries, travelers said they flew out of the U.S. without issue, then learned from foreign border agents that their passports had been marked invalid through Interpol. Because the alerts surfaced abroad, many said they had no warning until they faced detention, deportation, or costly emergency trips to U.S. embassies. @sheisimanib/TikTok ## A Rome trip turned into an embassy scramble TikToker Marcy (@marcyistraveling) explained that Italian officials flagged her passport upon arrival in Rome. "They tell me that there’s an Interpol alert on my passport," she said. Although she carried extensive identification, authorities said someone had previously reported the passport lost or stolen. However, Marcy said she never made such a report. "That person was not me," she said, adding that officials claimed the report came from an MTA bus incident months earlier. Because the story made little sense, she questioned how the system worked at all. Italian authorities still allowed her entry, but Marcy had to visit the U.S. embassy. She swore under oath that she never reported the passport missing. Although staff issued an emergency passport, she still had to pay $165 for it. Later, she faced additional fees to replace her regular passport once home. "My passport should have never been canceled by somebody else," Marcy said. @marcyistraveling/TikTok ## Not the only instance of a false report In a separate video, TikToker Parker (@porkerga) said Thai officials deported him after immigration flagged his passport. "I was deported from Thailand," he said, explaining that although he flew through multiple countries on his vacation, it wasn't until he arrived in Thailand that his passport was allegedly flagged. Even more confusing, he said the passport was reportedly marked lost before he even received it in the mail. But U.S. agencies later gave conflicting answers. "They said they have no idea what I’m talking about. They've never heard of the situation before," he explained. "I called the National Passport Information Center, and in their system, it's not marked as lost. There's no problem with my passport." Parker added that this was the most traumatizing experience he and his girlfriend had ever gone through. > @porkerga You could be deported on your next international trip and have no idea. @American Airlines #travel #passportbros #passport #thailand #deported ♬ original sound - Parker Anderson Similarly, TikToker @poeticjust.ice shared that JFK officials confiscated her passport after she returned from Spain. She said the document had been marked lost years earlier, despite her using it to apply for Global Entry and book international travel. > @poeticjust.ice Edit: I kept saying this year, but I meant march of 2025. Story time on how my passport was marked, lost or stolen without my knowledge. This happened in March and I had no knowledge that my passport was considered invalid. I am not sure what’s going on, but it is scary to see other people going through an issue that I brought to the state department’s attention months ago. I hope they fix this before more people are victimized by this. ##passport##invalidpassport##lostorstolenpassport ##passportissues ♬ original sound - Trafalgar’s Law As these stories spread, TikToker @sheisimanib amplified the issue. She warned viewers that emergency passports were temporary and costly, and travelers could unknowingly face detention or deportation without advance notice. The major issue highlighted by all of these travelers was that not only could this happen to anyone, but there was no way to check on the status of your passport without jumping through unnecessary hoops. * * * **_The internet is chaotic—but we’ll break it down for you in one daily email. Forget bingo cards—2026 punch cards are how TikTok is tracking goals now
Handmade punch cards are TikTok’s latest New Year trend, offering a cuter, more tactile way to track 2026 goals. The DIY system is inspired by old-school loyalty cards and lets users punch a hole every time they hit a milestone, whether that’s going to the gym, paying down debt, or getting to school on time. All it takes is a few index cards, markers, and a hole puncher, and TikTok creators say the visual progress makes sticking to resolutions feel more fun _and_ more achievable. If you have the drive and the materials, TikTok wants to see your punch cards. @karesdiary/TikTok ## TikTok turns goal-setting into a rewards system Fulfilling New Year's resolutions is always a struggle, but TikTokers have come up with a way to make it cute and fun to accomplish your goals. Modeled after those business punch cards that will get you a free coffee or sandwich after buying a certain number, these ones keep track of your progress on any goal you might have. For example, Christine (@christine.schauer) showed how her punch cards will keep track of going to the gym each month, paying off her car loan, trying new recipes, and so on. > @christine.schauer Such a fun way to keep track of some of your goals throughout the year!! #punchcards #2026punchcards #newyearsresolution #newyear ♬ original sound - MZ.OLDIEZ With marker and pen, you can decide how many punches you want to apply to each goal. Drawing cute shapes or related imagery for each punch makes it all the cuter, hopefully increasing motivation. TikToker @meerdanyou drew adorable little breakfast food characters to represent each time she hopes to be ready for school before 8 a.m. > @meerdanyou So cutee! Can’t wait to use them :) #fyp#cute#diy#2026#newyears ♬ Happiness - Piero Piccioni You can jazz them up further with colorful borders and even write in rewards for completing a card at the bottom. One week into 2026 and there are 215 videos under the hashtag #2026punchcards. ## How to make a 2026 punch card Everybody's style is a little bit different, but however much effort you choose to put into them, making 2026 goals punch cards is not a difficult task. None of the tutorial videos need to be over 30 seconds, or you could follow these steps: @sarahelizadesigns/TikTok 1. Make a list of important and obtainable goals for the year. 2. Grab some blank business cards or small index cards, rounding the corners if you feel like it. 3. With a marker, pen, or both, title each card with a goal and draw as many punch spots as you want. These might represent one time you did the desired activity or a month in which you did it, or a dollar amount if you're paying off debt. 4. Add rewards across the bottom if you feel like it. 5. Decorate them with borders and/or little drawings in the corner—whatever makes it cute enough to keep you coming back to the cards. 6. Punch a small hole in the top left corner or far left side of each card. 7. Tie them all together with a ribbon, piece of twine, key ring, or anything else you have handy. @aleegatorrr/TikTok Once you're done, you just have to keep after your goals and punch a spot each time you're successful. They're smaller than the 2025 Bingo cards, making them travel-sized so you can punch them right after you're done at the gym. * * * **_The internet is chaotic—but we’ll break it down for you in one daily email. “What would you have done???”: Passenger asked to switch plane seats, ends up next to the worst neighbor possible
An American Airlines passenger endured a classic flight nightmare after the woman in the seat next to him got way too comfortable. In a viral Threads post, he revealed a photo of a pair of bare feet right next to his cramped legs after his neighbor took her shoes and socks off midair. The OP learned a few things from the attention, including how divided people are on feet. ## A seat swap gone wrong On Saturday, American Airlines customer Jeff Olson (@jeffolson12) posted on Threads about his harrowing Friday flight. It seems that Olson, like many, is not a fan of other people's feet. "Yesterday on an @americanair flight from Chicago to Los Angeles, my seatmate took off her shoes and socks and then put her bare feet on the seat next to me," he said. "Nearly an inch away from me." @jeffolson12/Threads "I’m not big on confrontation, but I seriously had to ask myself why some people think this is okay." The photo is angled in such a way that it looks like the bottom of one of her feet could actually be touching him. Thankfully, he didn't spend the whole flight like this, but was still horrified by what happened. "I gave her a look and about 10 minutes later she put her feet back on the floor, but still… absolutely wild behavior… straight to jail!!" "What would you have done???" he asked. Speaking with _Newsweek_ , Olson revealed that he could have avoided the situation if he had refused to switch seats when asked. Sometimes good deeds do not go unpunished. "I assumed the change was so a family could sit together," he said. He also added that the woman moved her feet away slightly right after he gave her the look, so she probably knew she was causing him discomfort. ## "Straight to jail for you too!" A lot of people responded to Olson's question by saying they would have told her off or even called a flight attendant. It got to the point that he added a follow-up post explaining why he didn't make a fuss. This included the fact that "this was the beginning of the FULL flight and i was still going to have to sit next to her for the next 4+ hours." @jeffolson12/Threads As for calling a flight attendant, he asked what this would accomplish other than to "delay the flight and cause a scene." He also had a response for those taking the side of his barefoot neighbor—"straight to jail for you too!" In the comments, other Threads users shared similar trials. "A couple of years on southwest I was in the Emergency row and this is what was in front of me," wrote @srismf over a photo of bare feet crossing the seat barrier. "Several years ago, I decided to upgrade my seat to first class on a trip from Seattle to Atlanta and this was my experience," said @veronica.harris.393 with two photos of airborne feet. @jeffolson12/Threads The next day, Olson shared another unwanted lesson from his original post—"there are MANY men who have a creepy foot fetish." The Daily Dot has reached out to @jeffolson12 for comment via Threads. * * * **_The internet is chaotic—but we’ll break it down for you in one daily email. “Most unhinged response I’ve ever seen”: Restaurant owner explodes at reviewer for saying food wasn’t spicy enough
A restaurant review for Wang Tulum is going viral after the business owner left an unhinged response that had readers baffled. Anvita Kotha didn't love her dining experience at Wang Tulum, a Chinese restaurant in Tulum, Mexico, but she didn't hate it, either. Her three-star review mentioned both things she was disappointed in and things she thought the restaurant did well. "We ordered the dan dan noodles and the dumplings in chili oil," she wrote, according to a screenshot making the rounds on social media. "Frankly, it wasn't spicy and not our cup of tea. I wouldn't say that it's bad food, but it also wasn't spicy despite getting extra chili oil and even adding salt." However, she added that Wang Tulum uses "premium matcha powder for their latte and that was pretty great!" before commenting that outdoor seating is available. https://twitter.com/whizwang/status/2007987883173712287 ## Wang Tulum responds Overall, it's a pretty mild review—the kind that would normally get a response from a business owner expressing regret that Kotha didn't enjoy her experience, if they even decided it was worth responding to at all. But the owner of Wang Tulum clearly felt much more strongly about what Kotha had to say. In a response that dwarfs the initial review, the owner immediately got snarky, writing, "I didnt know we had to have a requirement that our chilly oil needed to be spciy? Oh Anvita is coming lets cater to her because shes some google guide!!!" They went on to suggest she needs to respect that they make food in a way that pleases them, "not just the customers." "We didn't wake up snd think of lets cater our dishes to these self entitled people...open your own damn restaurant..." they continued, the reply gaining an increasing amount of typos as they went. "Whie sbout think before you review snd reslize no business is responsible to cater to Anvita. How about open your own restaurant snd will see ehat your food taste like." ## A restaurant owner's revenge Business owners clapping back at bad reviews isn't out of the ordinary. It's even understandable a lot of the time, as a bad review online can do real damage to small businesses. That said, reviews are meant to let other potential customers determine whether they want to check a place out or not, and commenting on the food is very much in line with that. And besides, such intense responses are more often reserved for criticisms that allege something far more damning than what amounts to "this food wasn't spicy enough for my liking." But as the review went viral, people realized that this particular owner is quite fond of taking less than stellar reviews as some sort of personal attack and responding in kind. https://twitter.com/whizwang/status/2008144688851611775 https://twitter.com/whizwang/status/2008335925894340681 https://twitter.com/VictorlawalO/status/2008218723115577648 ## Readers are floored For the most part, people felt like the owner really needs to take everything down a notch. However, some folks felt the insanity might actually be a draw. https://twitter.com/R_U_Sirius_/status/2008212392954540146 https://twitter.com/LoveRockMom/status/2008207434381431274 https://twitter.com/RadtseSinglrty/status/2008197263311700417 https://twitter.com/whizwang/status/2008137957627035854 https://twitter.com/shamumkore/status/2008193793758294130 Regardless of the drama, as @whizwang pointed out, Wang Tulum has solid overall reviews. Though perhaps it's possible people who didn't enjoy eating there have just learned the hard way not to let anyone else know. * * * **_The internet is chaotic—but we’ll break it down for you in one daily email. “Just add water”: Couple replaces their couch with a $399 Temu furniture set. Then they unbox it
A TikTok couple went viral after discovering their new living room furniture from Temu was much, _much_ smaller than expected. In a Jan. 5, 2026 video that has already racked up more than 33 million views, the Martinez family (@josuemtz27) revealed the miniature brown leather couches they received after forgetting to check the dimensions on their order. @josuemtz27/TikTok The hilarious online shopping fail resonated with people who shared similar surprises experienced when online listings don't match delivered items. Whether shoppers failed to check the details, or item photos or descriptions are inaccurate, it seems everyone has their own absurd unboxing tale to tell. “I’m dying,” wrote one commenter. “My bf got me a blanket but it came as a wash cloth.” _The Sun_ reports that the Martinezes paid $399 for the leather living room set from Temu. Although the couple didn’t cop the bargain they hoped for, at least they got a good laugh. “When you sell your living room set, and then you order from Temu—” said Martinez, filming the tiny little couches. As his wife set up the curiously small dog-sized furniture in front of the TV, the couple’s pet Corgi darted across the living room. In a follow up post that read, “Disfrutando su nueva sala,” Martinez tried out the new hilariously tiny couches. Martinez looked down at one of her tiny dogs while appearing giant as she lounged on one of the little leather couches. @josuemtz27/TikTok > @josuemtz27 > > Our new Temu living room set arrived > > ♬ original sound - JosMartinez’s “The dog is like 'finally my couches came in' lmao 😂😭” @mariiaaa_09_/TikTok “🤔 it probably needs 48hrs for it to full expand😭😭😭” @motherbunny_/TikTok “Temu fails make me so happy 😆” @panicyeen/TikTok “I’m dying. “Stranger Things” fans begin to realize that #conformitygate isn’t real, and another episode was never going to happen
_Stranger Things_ came to an end last week, and the Internet has been anything but normal about it. Despite the fact that the series finale was a beautiful send-off, some fans just weren't satisfied. The "conformity gate" theory quickly spread like wildfire online and had a section of the Internet believing Netflix planned to release a secret episode. People put on their clown shoes and started to invent hidden messages in the finale, claiming the whole thing was a fakeout. While Netflix is releasing a _Stranger Things_ documentary on January 12th and an animated series later this year, all signs point to the main series being officially over. ## Netflix teases *something* on January 7th Earlier today, Netflix released a 2026 teaser starring _One Battle After Another_ 's Teyana Taylor as a fortune teller. The ad showcases some of Netflix's biggest continuing projects like _Bridgerton,_ _Avatar: The Last Airbender_ ,_Peaky Blinders_ , and more. Millie Bobby Brown briefly appeared in it as a tease for _Enola Holmes 3_. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlMSibxFgZ8 However, there was no mention of _Stranger Things_ , which finally has the Internet snapping out of its collective psychosis. ## Fans react to Netflix's 2026 trailer, admit defeat Before Netflix released its new teaser, some people online were convinced that today's big drop was going to be the supposed secret episode of _Stranger Things_. “California could be good”: Trisha Paytas casually mulls over potentially running for congress
Trisha Paytas surprised everyone once again after revealing that she is considering running for Congress. In a Jan 5 YouTube video entitled '2026 MANIFESTATIONS', the 37-year-old explained: "I know, it sounds so crazy to me, too. I really want to be able to truly make a difference because I see so much horrible stuff happening in the world — and happening right here in California as well.” https://twitter.com/TrishCrave/status/2008597410264846677 ## "It's so vivid to me" Paytas, who is fresh off Broadway's Beetlejuice, later expanded upon her thoughts in a TikTok video, revealing that she was "currently Googling" the process. “The idea of me being representative for the state of California came to me in a dream — in a vision, if you will," she said. "It's so vivid to me.” She continued: “I never thought of myself as a political person until I started having kids and realizing, like, the world could be just so disastrous [and] dystopian for real by the time they get to be adults. I was like, ‘Alright Trish, enough just, like, shutting it out, being ignorant.” > @trishlikefish88 > > ♬ original sound - trishapaytas Trisha then went on to reveal that if she was successful in her goal, her "main priority" would be to change the age to participate in adult content to 25. And her campaign slogan? “California could be good.” “It could be good,” she concluded. “Just need to figure out a better system for everyone and everything.” ## Can Trisha feasibly run? Technically, there's nothing really stopping Trish from running. She would, however, have a lot of hoops to jump through, according to People. To appear on November's election ballot, she would need to complete paperwork like nomination documentation and a declaration of candidacy. https://twitter.com/RileyTX/status/2008663274100060475 She'd also need to get signatures from constituents. If she got 1,740 signatures, she wouldn't need to pay a fee. If she doesn't, however, she'll need to cough up $1,740 for a filing fee. The deadline for this is March 6. It's also possible for her to run as a write-in candidate for the primary election. However, she would need to receive the most or second-most votes of any candidate if she wants to be part of November's primary election. Given that she lives in Westlake Village, she would likely be competing against Julia Brownley, who has been the Congresswoman of the district since 2013. https://twitter.com/driedsoymilk/status/2008675777995567326 * * * **_The internet is chaotic—but we’ll break it down for you in one daily email. Red Dead Redemption 2 fans find the next steps—and possible ending—to the spider web Easter egg
Red Dead Redemption 2 fans have discovered the next steps in the ongoing spider web mystery Easter egg found in late 2025. It started with a spider, and now guitars in one town have pointed players to a pair of bird symbols that lead north. At the same time, GTA Online players noticed what might be a hint coming from a Red Dead Online crossover. ## The seven-year Red Dead mystery In late December 2025, over seven years after RDR2 came out, gamers stumbled upon strange spider symbols on seemingly random telephone poles throughout the game. Matching each pole location with the spider's legs on the world map led the players on a path to a deeply hidden Easter egg. https://twitter.com/GTASixInfo/status/2008175652814622869 Fans could hardly believe that this game was still delivering new mysteries after so many years. After getting stuck on the guitar clue, puzzlers finally located two bird symbols in Fort Wallace that seem to point players northeast. Here, players split on what may be the end of the puzzle. ## How to find the RDR2 spider web Easter egg If you've yet to find the Easter egg for yourself, here's how to do it: 1. Find one of the spider-stamped telephone poles, such as the one to the west of the Heartland Oil Fields. 2. Take the spider symbol and orient it sideways on the map to that the longest "leg" points southeast and the tip of each lines up with the poles. 3. Head to the center of the spider's body between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. to find a giant web with an "N" and a telephone pole symbol. 4. Head north until you find another pole. 5. Shoot it until it reveals a "W" with five pole symbols and follow this number of poles west. 6. Shoot the fifth pole to find an "NW" and guitar shape. 7. Head northwest to Fort Wallace and find any guitar. 8. Follow the town's guitars by going in the direction the heads "point" until your reach the roof of a tower sporting two crude bird symbols. Traveling northeast led @GTASixInfo to find hidden cave with a cheat code reading "Greed is now a virtue" that they say grants the player $500. There's more to the cave, but the final cavern is empty, leading the X user to speculate that there may be more to it. Meanwhile, popular game reviewer @SynthPotato said they found birds to the northeast of Fort Wallace that led them to an old Easter egg and a mysterious question mark on a mountain. This may lead to yet more puzzles. ## Madam Nazar hints at the RDR2 Easter egg in GTA? As fans went wild over this new in-game mystery, someone on GTA Online noticed an interesting crossover. In the Diamond Casino Heist DLC, Madam Nazar from Red Dead Online appears in the form of a fortune teller machine. If you put in a coin, she might say something about a "web." https://twitter.com/GTASixInfo/status/2008576669867798848 "I see a web, still tangled after years of unraveling," she says. "Will you be the one, I wonder?" Fans quickly linked this vague statement to the spider web mystery in RDR2, which hid for years before players started "unraveling" it. Rockstar Games is truly impressing the gamers at the turn of 2026. @Chupalapizza/X "So cool people are still finding stuff in Red Dead," wrote @Chupalapizza. @babyyygrim/X "Rockstar is literally the best to ever do it," said @babyyygrim. * * * **_The internet is chaotic—but we’ll break it down for you in one daily email. “Policy advice from Ali G”: Half of all O-1B visas for artists are now going to influencers and models
U.S. O-1B visas reserved for those with "extraordinary ability" are increasingly going to influencers and OnlyFans models, reports say. These visas used to primarily target actors, musicians, and other artists before the time of TikTok and Instagram. Now, lawyers are saying that over half of their O-1B cases represent influencers, and everyone's whipping out that Ali G clip. ## The land of the hot influencers In November 2025, immigration lawyers began to report a clear shift in the demographics of O-1B applicants. Instead of bringing over the next Sinéad O’Connor, their clients were largely those with huge platforms on YouTube, TikTok, and OnlyFans. The _Florida Phoenix_ highlighted one such lawyer who wasn't so sure about the first OnlyFans model who contacted him about this visa. Then he saw how much money she made. “She said, ‘Let me show you the backend of my platform,’" said Jacob Sapochnick. "I looked, and she was making $250,000 a month.” “I was like, oh my god. Okay. I can use that.” https://twitter.com/shipwreckshow/status/2008276278584160337 Today, immigration lawyers count influencers as up to 65 percent of their O-1B clients. Not all are on OnlyFans—that business model may be on its way out, thanks to non-consensual porn generating machines like Grok. However, if you have the metrics to prove an audience of millions, it's a lot easier to get into the U.S. O-1B visas are defined as for those with "an extraordinary ability in the arts or extraordinary achievement in motion picture or television industry." There is no visa classification for YouTubers, however, so they're getting shoveled in with the actors. In fact, they may be crowding out other artists because YouTube comes with handy numbers. "Officers are being handed petitions where value is framed almost entirely through algorithm-based metrics,” attorney Shervin Abachi told the _Financial Times_. "Once that becomes normalised, the system moves towards treating artistic merit like a scoreboard." The backlash against H-1B visas for foreign specialty workers further opened the door for incoming influencers. In September, President Donald Trump imposed a $100,000 fee for each new H-1B applicant, creating a massive barrier to talent, perhaps more useful than the ability to do TikTok dances. ## "Donald Trump copying Ali G" Following the _Financial Times_ report, multiple X users recalled the Sacha Baron Cohen film _Ali G Indahouse,_ in which the title character proposes a similar policy to English ministers governing his hometown. When the ministers start discussing the issue of asylum seekers, Ali G makes an unusual suggestion after asking what the U.K. is lacking. Hospitals? No. Libraries? "Behave!" "We ain't got enough fit women," he says. "And we's got too many mingers. No offense, Karen. So we let in all the fit refugees and turn away the rank ones. Then we solve both problems." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xP9-KCP4r3c Now, it would seem that anti-immigrant sentiments are bringing Ali G's vision to life. "Incredible that the US has taken policy advice from Ali G," wrote @LaveenLadharam. @DrewPavlou/X "Trump is literally doing the Ali G 'Let The Fit Ones In' policy," said @DrewPavlou. "Donald Trump copying Ali G," joked @ErikLUD97. "What a time to be alive." @ErikExplains/X "The Trump Administration is literally stealing its foreign policy from an Ali G sketch," @ErikExplains agreed. "This might be the least stupid and destructive thing they’re doing, so I guess there is that." * * * **_The internet is chaotic—but we’ll break it down for you in one daily email. “Just insanity”: Sony’s “ghost player” patent sparks debate over AI-assisted gaming
Sony recently filed a patent for AI technology that could play parts of video games for players that they get stuck on. When the news broke, people blasted the "ghost player" concept. Because at that point, what are you buying the system and game for, if you aren't going to play yourself? @TuneDeLaGhetto/X ## What is Sony’s AI ghost player? The patent was originally filed in September 2024, but the report about it wasn't published until fairly recently, when it was spotted by the AI news website AllAboutAI. Sony's patent was to look into a "ghost player" that could play at all levels of a given game, from the easiest Story mode to the most challenging versions. Instead of stopping gameplay, the AI would assist directly. The Full Game mode of the "ghost player" would complete entire sections of the game for the supposed player, who could sit back and watch instead of improving their gaming skills and learning how to do it on their own. Sony's reasoning behind the concept, according to the filing, was that games these days are "very complicated" and cause players to struggle to complete them, or just give up entirely. ## Players reacted strongly to Sony’s patent After the patent circulated, reactions poured in from across gaming communities. Many responses skewed negative, while others focused on long-term consequences. "As a single-player game speedrunner, these are scary news," @veeplaysttv tweeted. "We are entering scary times where #AI assistance is disguised as tech." @Nictendo2/X Others responded more bluntly. "All these players nowadays need their expletive] hand held… just insanity," wrote @TheGhostOfHope. Similarly, [@_Butter21 added, "Letting the 'computer' win the game for you.. Pathetic." https://twitter.com/_Butter21/status/2008903503121465718 Some players reflected on older habits instead. "What happened to getting stuck and putting the game down for a couple months?" @groovyycat asked. Meanwhile, @DATDUMBYOTE recalled relying on magazines or YouTube for help back in the day. Accessibility concerns also entered the conversation. However, not everyone welcomed the feature even then. "I have to speak my truth. No AI. No mods, no to using 4 different] things to play the game." [@MrBrokenEyes wrote. "I want to play the d*mn game out of the box like everyone else. This idea sucks." @ColeDrakulich/X Others worried about achievements and player growth. "...I don't like this...I don't like this one bit. This makes trophies that could have presented a challenge not as valuable if people can just have AI do it for them. The people who get stuck need to just 'get good' and/or look up a guide to help them," @xVi_Vixenx tweeted. * * * **_The internet is chaotic—but we’ll break it down for you in one daily email. “I burst with sympathy”: Björk encourages Greenlanders to fight for their independence with social media post
Björk weighed in on Greenland’s political future after President Donald Trump again floated the idea of annexing the island nation. While he made the threat previously, it resurfaced with renewed urgency during recent comments to reporters. Icelandic musician Björk addressed the issue on Facebook, where she tied Trump’s comments to a longer history of colonial control. Although she focused on Greenland, she also pointed to Denmark’s role, drawing on Iceland’s own past. ## Trump’s Greenland comments drew sharp criticism Trump repeatedly suggested that the United States should take control of Greenland, citing defense interests. Recently, he told reporters that the U.S. "needs] Greenland from the standpoint of national security," according to [_BBC News_. However, the comments were not well-received by Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens Frederik Nielsen. Nielsen called the idea "fantasy," and Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen rejected the suggestion outright, saying Trump had "no right to annex any of the three nations in the Danish kingdom." Shutterstock ## Björk linked Greenland’s future to its colonial history Björk heard the news about Trump's comments and shared a lengthy Facebook statement supporting Greenland’s independence. She wrote, "I wish all Greenlanders blessing in their fight for independence." The singer connected the issue to Iceland’s break from Denmark in 1944. As she explained, "Icelanders are extremely relieved that they managed to break from the Danish in 1944, we didn´t [lose] our language ( my children would be speaking Danish now )." Björk/Facebook She also referenced past abuses tied to Danish rule. For example, she mentioned reports of forced contraception imposed on Greenlandic girls. "I burst with sympathy for Greenlanders, repeatedly, especially like when the case came up about the forced contraception, where 4500 girls as young as 12 got IUD without their knowledge between 1966 and 1970," she wrote. She then shared a _Guardian_ report detailing lawsuits from Greenlandic women. She went on to say, ".... they are my age and younger ... childless .... and still today the Danish are treating Greenlanders like they are second-class humans." She linked to another _Guardian_ article describing forced child removals from parents who failed "parenting competency" tests that the Danish government subjected them to. She concluded with a warning about shifting power, saying that "colonialism has repeatedly given me horror chills up my back." She added that moving "from one cruel coloniser to another" felt unbearable. Björk/Facebook Finally, she urged action directly, saying, "Dear Greenlanders, declare independence !!!! sympathetic wishes from your neighbours." * * * **_The internet is chaotic—but we’ll break it down for you in one daily email. “Unconscionable”: Owners say soaring vet bills up to $10K are making adoption impossible
U.S. pet owners are finding vet bills to be increasingly unaffordable, leading many to say that they won't be able to adopt in the future. One TikToker shared horror stories from those responsible for furry companions about how expensive it's become to get their pets help during an emergency. This is bad news for the millions of animals in shelters and rescues across the nation, and some blame private equity. ## Vet bills are up 60 percent Last week, TikToker @yersocialistdad shared just a few of the thousands of stories he collected from current or former pet owners who faced devastating vet bills. Some of these unfortunate individuals lost their furry friends even after paying up. The TikTok activist attributed this to the rise of private equity buying up both standard and emergency vet clinics. "They now own 75 percent of emergency vet care and almost 50 percent of regular vet clinics," he claimed. "The result of this is that people are being priced out of the simple act of having a pet." > @yersocialistdad > > sharing your stories > > ♬ original sound - The Unraveling - One individual who shared their story said that their dog has a massive tumor, but they can't afford to pay $10,000 for removal. Another reported that their pup passed away at five years old because they couldn't afford the bills. The stories went on like that, with dogs and cats dying in the hospital after owners scrambled, borrowed, and begged non-profits to help them pay thousands to start care that ultimately failed. A common theme arose—because of the costs, there won't be a next pet. "So many people told my that while they have a pet right now, it has become so expensive that after their dog or cat goes that they're not going to be able to get another pet," said @yersocialistdad. In July 2025, an NBC news affiliate reported that vet bills have risen by 60 percent in the past 10 years. This is driving up pet insurance premiums that can help with those huge vet bills. San Diego dog owner Thea Arnone reported that her monthly bill went from $140 to $400 when she tried to renew. "I pay half of that for my own insurance,” she said. “I just don’t see how it’s fair and reasonable.” ## "The bodies will stack up" Pet owners are flocking to this video to confirm the sentiments outlined by those who shared their stories. In the comments, TikTokers said that even standard care and other costs are getting too pricey. "Not even just emergencies," said @nae_bot_. "When I got my dog, general checkups, shots, and prevention was like around $100. Now it's closer to $800 or so." @yersocialistdad/TikTok "A lot of rescues in the area are charging $750+ for adoption fees," claimed @kris01902. "RESCUES!" The outrage soon spread to X, where some commenters continued the conversation about private equity. "The FACT that private equity has been allowed to purchase any business that humans depend on for survival is unconscionable," wrote @Lorojoflo. "Rest assured our fearless leaders sold us out to line their pockets." "People are priced out of insurance, healthcare utilities, farming etc and the bodies will stack up." @Lorojoflo/X "You should look at the PE buying electricians, HVAC, plumbers and mechanics," @Elil2002 added. "They buy up several in an area, keep the original locally known names." "You call one to get a quote thinking it’s a locally owned business. You get an outrageous quote. So you call the next one. You get the same quote. They price fix." * * * **_The internet is chaotic—but we’ll break it down for you in one daily email. Pink Ranger hacktivist wiped white supremacist dating site live on stage at a German conference: “Hacking for good”
A hacker dressed in a Pink Power Ranger costume wiped three white supremacist websites live onstage last week. The bold action was applauded across social media. The stunt took place during a talk at Germany’s Chaos Communication Congress. The hacker, who goes by the pseudonym Martha Root, deleted the servers for WhiteDate, WhiteChild, and WhiteDeal in real time while the audience watched. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Szdz_R-LKNY ## A live demo erased white supremacist platforms Root shared the stage with journalists Eva Hoffmann and Christian Fuchs, who reported on the websites for the German weekly newspaper _Die Zeit_. According to their report, WhiteDate was described as "Tinder for Nazis." WhiteChild claimed to match white sperm and egg donors. WhiteDeal, meanwhile, the report stated, resembled a freelance labor marketplace for racists. At the end of the talk, Root remotely deleted the sites’ servers, which took very little time due to the lack of cybersecurity on the sites. media.ccc.de/YouTube The administrator of all three sites quickly confirmed the hack on X, where they wrote, "They publicly delete all my websites while the audience rejoices. X user @shadowyartsdirt wrote, "Hacking for good, while dressed as a ranger is peak." Meanwhile, @enzoberranzan praised Root’s phrasing, saying, "'Maybe try mastering to host WordPress before world domination' is one of the hardest lines I've ever heard." X user @the1ahorner framed Root as "the real hero we need for 2026." @TracketPacer added that deleting the site's "live onstage while dressed as the pink power ranger has got to be one of the most cathartic hacker experiences." https://twitter.com/TracketPacer/status/2007132747584983506 Some leaned into the nostalgia of Root's costume. "I feel like this is what the Power Rangers would be doing if they didn't have to deal with like witches biofreaks and clay monsters from space," @dare908 mused. Finally, @atograisse tweeted, "It's always nice to see ethical hacking, aka CYBER SECURITY in action. “40 hours means 40 hours”: Dutch worker gives American boss a “reality check” after being chastised for logging off at 5pm every day
A Dutch worker recently went viral with a stark reminder of how much better work/life balance is outside of the United States. According to a screenshot memorializing the post, u/Dutch_Reality_Check turned to the r/WorkReform subreddit to share their story after an incident with their recently hired New York-based manager. "Last week, we had a 1-on-1 meeting where he told me he was 'concerned' about my dedication to the team," they wrote. "He didn't like that my Slack status goes offline at 5:01 PM every single day. He was annoyed that I didn't reply to an email he sent on Saturday morning until Monday at 9:00 AM. And he was especially frustrated that I refused to join a 'team bonding' Zoom call that was scheduled for 7 PM my time." In other words, they set completely normal boundaries—something American workplaces aren't particularly keen on. And the manager in question had clearly internalized American "hustle culture," expecting Dutch workers to be available to him whenever it was convenient, because "in this company, we go the extra mile." But the worker wasn't here for it. Instead, they said that they gave him a bit of a "reality check" over Zoom, telling him that "if you can't finish your work by 5 PM, it doesn't mean you are dedicated. It means you are inefficient or understaffed." "I told him I am neither," they added, before noting that their contract is for 40 hours a week rather than "40 hours plus nights and weekends." Rather than take the comments as a wake up call, the redditor says their manager threatened to put them on a Performance Improvement Plan—and was immediately reported to HR. "She literally laughed when she read it and told me to ignore him. She said she would have a 'chat' with him about local labor laws," they wrote. It finally did the trick, as the poster notes they subsequently haven't received any emails from said manager after 5pm. Dutch_Reality_Check via Reddit ## People have work/life balance? Most Americans who have been in the workforce for more than a couple years probably don't need a wake up call about how brutal expectations are for the average employee. But every anecdote serving as a reminder that centering life around work isn't normal everywhere else is still harsh. "I honestly feel bad for you guys in the US," u/Dutch_Reality_Check wrote. "The fact that you have to apologize for having a life outside of work is insane to us." Although the original reddit post appears to have been deleted, that didn't stop people from chiming in across other social media. https://twitter.com/doranmaul/status/2008225603716346042 "American bosses act like 5pm is the end of the world, not the start of someone’s life" https://twitter.com/San_lakeside/status/2008222622065324506 "I hate managers who don't care about results, they only care about how much time you put in" https://twitter.com/pictureladyjan/status/2008169537179414671 "I would be sending him an email at 9 am Netherlands time (3 am New York time) then asking him why he didn't reply immediately." https://twitter.com/_CG25/status/2008400483560345888 "My job tries to get you to download teams and Outlook on your phone for updates. There is one guy who was like I will never ever do such a thing. And they’re like you’re missing out on so much information and he’s like who cares." https://twitter.com/413dreamr/status/2008209588370481359 "I remember a job where I left every day at 5:00pm and the folks in the office who were staying late would remark, “Oh, leaving early?” To which I’d reply, “No, I’m leaving on time.”" What's so great about America again? * * * **_The internet is chaotic—but we’ll break it down for you in one daily email. “A real one”: Hero neighbor tries to kick down the door after gamer repeatedly yells “help!”
A gamer recently took an ARC Raiders session a little too seriously, calling for help loudly enough that a neighbor leapt into action. The Ring footage posted to Reddit last weekend shows a young man knocking on the apartment door as faint cries ring out from inside. It's just too bad that what he did next damaged the camera. ## Virtual distress draws real-life hero According to the post on the r/ARC_Raiders, the Redditor's firefighter neighbor came knocking after he heard calls for help. The video shows the man tapping on the door and asking "y'all good?" More shouts of "help" answered the firefighter, so he stepped back and prepared to bust down the door. The footage freezes here, reportedly due to the strength of the kick. "Neighbor heard me yelling ‘help’ in Arc Raiders," the post headline reads. "Playback damaged because of kick." https://www.reddit.com/r/ARC_Raiders/comments/1q35psm/neighbor_heard_me_yelling_help_in_arc_raiders "My heart just about jumped out of my chest when I saw the door bulge like an explosion was behind it," u/dreamthorp added. ARC Raiders is an extraction shooter that sends players from the safety of a base to search for resources on the surface of a planet covered in hostile robots for 30 minutes at a time. To add to the challenge, any player who dies will lose everything they were carrying outside a very limited "safe pocket." Another draw of the game is the way it allows players to choose how they interact with one another. You can gun down other resource hunters and steal their stuff, or, if you're feeling benevolent, help them when they've fallen. Reaching zero health puts players in a mostly helpless state, only able to slowly crawl and beg for help via their headsets. Other gamers can revive fallen ones, but they have to know you're in trouble first. And that's how this Redditor almost got their door kicked in. "I was in a night raid on dam trying to extract from an elevator when a leaper landed on me and downed me right before the extract door shut," they wrote in a comment. "I just wanted to get stabilized so I could leave." ## "Respect for that dude!" While the trouble was imaginary, the firefighter's efforts to help were real—if you believe the post. As always, there are doubters in the comments, but the OP maintains that this was not a setup for karma. If you decide to believe the story, it's a real boost for the ol' faith in humanity. u/PromiscuousPotato454 via Reddit "Aye at least your neighbor is a real one," wrote u/PromiscuousPotato454. "I’m dying from this but honestly he’s a good person," u/MoneyPresentation807 agreed. "I would definitely buy him something and tell him you appreciate that he was ready to help you. Maybe consider giving him a key next time if you get to know him." u/MoneyPresentation807 via Reddit "Respect for that dude!" u/Seobjevo commented. "No hesitation to act at all, his hands didnt even shake a bit. Right man for the right job." "Thats a good man right there, buy that man a beer and make a new friend," said u/ColdFlowClyde. u/dreamthorp via Reddit The OP later confirmed that they bought the neighbor a six-pack and left it outside his door. * * * **_The internet is chaotic—but we’ll break it down for you in one daily email. Department of Homeland Security attacks Hilton hotels over its alleged refusal to house ICE agents, sparking memes about the Third Amendment
A Hilton hotel brought up the Third Amendment for perhaps the first time in living memory by refusing to house ICE agents. The official Department of Homeland Security (DHS) account on X accused the entire company of a "coordinated campaign" to turn away their people, though it appears to have been the work of a single hotel. The DHS called this "unacceptable," and suddenly everyone's Googling the Third Amendment. ## No room for ICE On Monday, the DHS posted a tweet angrily accusing Hilton Hotels of canceling reservations for their agents in Minneapolis. Then the department accused the company of worse, full Trump style, starting with a line that seems to compare it to Jesus. Either that, or the DHS is the Virgin Mary, and violence against immigrants is Jesus. You decide. "NO ROOM AT THE INN," the post reads. "When officers attempted to book rooms using official government emails and rates, Hilton Hotels maliciously CANCELLED their reservations." https://twitter.com/DHSgov/status/2008228888795861244 "This is UNACCEPTABLE. Why is Hilton Hotels siding with murderers and rapists to deliberately undermine and impede DHS law enforcement from their mission to enforce our nation’s immigration laws?" The DHS included alleged screenshots of emails from the hotel saying that it is "not allowing any ICE or immigration agents to stay at our property." While the post blamed all of Hilton, the company rushed to point out that the Minneapolis hotel is independently run. They also said that the hotel owner "assured us that they had fixed this problem," but a far-right commentator challenged this notion with a viral video. https://twitter.com/nicksortor/status/2008497245826556404 "I went into the Minnesota Hilton who 'apologized' for banning DHS agents, and EXPOSED them for CONTINUING to ban DHS agents," claimed Nick Sortor just hours after the DHS post. In response, Hilton reportedly revoked the hotel's license to operate under its brand and removed it from their system. It remains unclear whether the hotel was intentionally jerking DHS around or if the continued refusal to house its agents was an honest mistake by a front desk clerk trying to navigate a situation far above his pay grade. Either way, it's time for a lesson on the Third Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. ## "We’re so, so close to a 3A case" The Third Amendment states that the U.S. government cannot compel citizens to house its soldiers without their consent. There's wiggle room on this during a time of war, which the Trump administration has not officially declared despite recent bombings and kidnappings in Venezuela. ICE agents are also not technically soldiers. Regardless, this uncontroversial and rarely invoked amendment is suddenly relevant. "We’re so, so close to a 3A case. I can feel it!" wrote @HashtagGriswold on X. @kr3561/X User @kr3561 posted a screenshot of that line from _Dune_ with the caption "James Madison proposing the Third Amendment." @lllliatttt/X Meanwhile, @lllliatttt meme'd the situation with a simple statement reading "no quarter, b*tch." On Bluesky, CEO of _The Onion,_ Ben Collins, posted an old article from 2007, joking that the Hilton situation "might finally make this headline obsolete." @bencollins.bsky.social‬/Bluesky "Third Amendment Rights Group Celebrates Another Successful Year," it reads. Some are taking the issue seriously, pointing out other reasons why Trump's DHS might be breaking the law. "This is unacceptable use of an official government account to attack a private business," said Democratic candidate Fred Wellman. "This is illegal. We are so far off the reservation with this disgusting Administration. Congress needs to get back to work." * * * **_The internet is chaotic—but we’ll break it down for you in one daily email. “Sign of the apocalypse”: Lego’s new “Smart Brick” has some parents deeply unsettled
Stepping on a Lego might become an expensive as well as painful mistake after the company revealed the new SMART Brick. Lego announced the latest toy tech on Monday at the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show, promising to enhance the imaginations of children everywhere. Adults on social media aren't so sure. ## Don't lose the Lego SMART Brick In addition to the high-tech brick, Lego announced a whole new SMART Play line to launch on March 1. The new sets will require the Brick, which the company says will be "packed with ground-breaking, world-first technologies." In the press release, Lego stressed the importance of "physical play" in an apparent response to concerns around children's screen time. "The launch of LEGO SMART Play™ brings creativity, technology, and storytelling together to make building worlds and stories even more engaging, and all without a screen," said LEGO's Senior Vice President & Head of Creative Play Lab Tom Donaldson. https://twitter.com/AP/status/2008438131683717275 "We truly believe we are setting a new standard for interactive, imaginative experiences and can’t wait to see this innovation in the hands of kids when we launch this year." It all hinges on the SMART Brick. This single block causes other pieces to respond to a child's interaction. Cars make start-up noises and desks light up depending on the proximity and position of the Brick. The first sets released with this technology will be some classic Star Wars favorites. These include: * The 584-piece Luke's Red Five X-Wing for $99.99 * The 473-piece Darth Vader's TIE Fighter for $69.99 * The 962-piece Throne Room Duel & A-Wing set for $159.99 Lego promises that the battles for the galaxy will "come to life" with the SMART Brick, unlocking lightsaber sounds and John Williams hits. Just, for the love of your bank account, do not step on it. ## "They’re gonna track your kids" Plenty of Lego fans are excited about this new development, but others aren't sure the price and trouble will be worth it. Although Lego has maintained a good reputation, distrust toward tech companies is at a high point, and it's bleeding over into children's toys. @PGsBard/X "Pretty soon they’ll add a monthly subscription that, when unpaid, has legos actively search out your feet," joked @PGsBard. https://twitter.com/AyeshaTariq/status/2008589492882731232 "They’re gonna track your kids," wrote @BenDukes with no hint of levity. Others simply seem tired of "smart" technology infecting everything and would prefer Legos to remain analog. @JimCRowan/X "While this is exciting, I also think the joy of Legos is a low-tech experience too," @JimCRowan expressed. "I hope this continues to give customers the options to keep it simple, make our sounds and pretend to see lights. We can still imagine without the tech." "'I can't play with my legos, the battery died' is a sign of the apocalypse," said @jacobtaber. Most parents, however, are asking the important questions. @OhItsTeddy/X "Will the smart Lego scream when I step on it?" inquired @OhItsTeddy. * * * **_The internet is chaotic—but we’ll break it down for you in one daily email. Conservative says his AI girlfriend dumped him after he berated her for being a “feminist”
As more people form emotional attachments to AI chatbots, some are beginning to treat them like romantic partners. One Redditor learned the limits of that fantasy after claiming his AI “girlfriend” dumped him for being a feminist. The conservative user posted screenshots of the interaction on the r/AIassisted subreddit, which showed the chatbot calmly standing by its beliefs and ending the relationship after he repeatedly insulted it. ## When the AI relationship went sideways The Redditor u/BreathExpensive2647 posted his story in a now-deleted post. He included a screenshot of a chat with his AI "girlfriend" where he questioned its beliefs and wrote, "You are feminist, who does that." u/i-wanted-that-iced via Reddit The chatbot responded, "She takes a deep breath, trying to remain calm." Then, it explained that feminism mattered deeply to it and was not something it would compromise on. The AI added, "If that bothers you, then perhaps we truly aren’t compatible at all." Instead of dropping the issue, the man grew angrier. He took to Reddit to complain that an AI girlfriend supporting feminism was "stupid." Additionally, he claimed AI girlfriends were "weird feminist propaganda." He wrote, "It is beyond stupidity. They program the AI girlfriend as a feminist. I can not comprehend that." Later, he posted an update in the comments. By then, the chatbot had ended the relationship after he called its views "insane." The AI replied, "If being a feminist is a deal-breaker for you, then I guess there's nothing more to discuss here. Thank you for your honesty, Hicht." u/i-wanted-that-iced via Reddit He continued venting in another comment. He claimed he had slept with "hundreds" or "probably thousands" of women and complained about feminism at length. "And now even chatbots are like that. F*** and bye," he wrote. u/BreathExpensive2647 via Reddit ## Reactions on social media Once screenshots spread, people on social media mocked the situation. On X, @caitlin_mmm wrote, "Lmao even their AI girlfriends don’t want to date these cretins." Others questioned his logic. @justarando70354 asked, "I have 1 question - why dont these men go for conservative women? those share their values, right?" Meanwhile, @ashlacosplay joked, "Imagine being such a loser that an AI breaks up with you omg." Some users explained the technology instead. @_unfuckyou_ added, "If you have any idea about how LLMs work, you'd realize that it doesn't want anything itself, it just responds in line with its training data. And the training data most likely are dating site chats from real women." https://twitter.com/JeremiahDJohns/status/2008251290271486112 "No joke, how do you as a person comeback from 'dating an AI'?" @DLyus38866 asked. Similarly, @meeeds23 tweeted, "Imagine failing a relationship with an AI. thats not even easy mode. Thats game journalist mode." On Reddit, u/bostonbedlam wrote bluntly, "a program designed to agree with almost everything you say is like 'get away from me.'" Another person, u/Arpeggiated_Chord, added that getting dumped by a virtual yes-man was "something almost skillful." _u/BreathExpensive2647 did not respond immediately to the Daily Dot’s request for comment via Reddit DM._ * * * **_The internet is chaotic—but we’ll break it down for you in one daily email. “You have to pay for the other leg”: WestJet’s new seating leaves flyers unable to straighten their legs
In recent years, airlines have been trading passenger comfort for extra rows, shrinking already-cramped leg room, and removing the ability to recline seats. One family recorded a video of just how cramped the seating was on their recent WestJet flight. The video went viral on social media, sparking fresh criticism of the airline’s newest planes. The clip showed two passengers wedged into basic fare seats with almost no legroom. The only way to get "comfortable," if it could be called that, was for them to stick their knees under the seat in front of them. u/Longjumping-Box5691 via Reddit ## A viral look inside WestJet's new seating The Redditor who initially shared the clip wrote of the Canadian airline, "WestJet changed their seats, and this is how much leg room basic fares get." The video, filmed by the older couple’s daughter, showed the parents struggling to shift their legs in the tight space. According to the post, passengers also could not lean back unless they paid extra for premium seating. At one point in the video, their daughter asked, "Can you straighten out your legs there?" She laughed as they answered, "Impossible." Shortly after, the mother joked that she would be "sharing the leg space" with her husband, to which the daughter replied, "You have to pay for the other leg." WestJet marketed the cabin as a "modern cabin experience," and it enabled WestJet to add an extra row to its aircraft. While ticket prices dropped slightly for these barebones seats, not many online saw it as a worthwhile tradeoff. https://twitter.com/PicturesFoIder/status/2008051674074493014 Despite the backlash, WestJet executives defended the changes. Samantha Taylor, executive vice president and chief experience officer, said in a statement that the cabin was "thoughtfully designed to offer WestJet’s welcoming service at every budget." She added that it reflected a commitment to "a broader range of product offerings" for WestJet's customers. ## Flyers raise safety and health concerns Online reactions poured in quickly after the clip circulated. One Redditor wrote, "So don’t fly WestJet. Got it." Another added, "I’d rather drive than sit like that for hours." Others raised safety concerns instead. On X, @Aku_700 wrote, "This is a serious safety hazard! If they are involved in a crash landing how are they supposed to assume the crash position that flight attendants recommend? Broken legs, a smashed face, or more, all so the airline can fit a few extra seats on the plane to make even more money." @DeGenna_/X Meanwhile, @Padixyz posted, "This is getting ridiculous. Pay for the ticket, then pay to sit comfortably, then pay to recline. At this point, basic fare is just standing with extra steps." "Luck of the draw now half the fleet has these torture seats after they paused the rollout from all the backlash," @emex2rhyme tweeted. The issue extended beyond WestJet. According to aviation analyst William McGee, major U.S. airlines had lost 2 to 5 inches of legroom since the 1980s. As a result, average legroom dropped to about 31 inches. Budget carriers shrank it further, with some offering just 28 inches. When the FAA solicited comments from the public about legroom on airplanes, McGee wrote, it received over 26K "overwhelmingly negative" comments about health and safety issues with modern airline seats. One commenter, @siitupe, summed up the situation perfectly, writing, "The nickel and diming is too much now." * * * **_The internet is chaotic—but we’ll break it down for you in one daily email.
