One argument I used to make to my students about why it was important to learn history (and historical thinking) is that someone was always going to be trying to tell you things were natural or had always been this way and that you needed to be able to see that as an exercise of power.

The Biden/Harris administration took big steps and we saw the rates of gun crimes decrease around the country. The country then elected a president whom we knew would roll back the actions Biden/Harris had taken. Change can happen, but elections are an integral part of that process. 2/2

More rural parts of my state still have gun clubs & teach firearm safety. (Having said that, our state legislature has voted on a bill for the past several years which would require that training to be the NRA Eddie Eagle program. Defeated every time, so far.)

I am not-so-secretly hoping my kids do that.

A friend moved to Canada, and the relief of not having lockdown drills and the constant vigilance is palpable.
