I kinda feel like the D's and R's are running a good-cop-bad-cop routine. Am I off base there

As an example, a city directly benefits from a highway existing in a rural area if this highway connects the city to other areas. It wouldn't make sense for 500 people who live near this section of highway to bear the full burden of maintaining it. Its benefits extend well beyond its immediate area!

Further, it makes statistical sense to me that the distribution of tax spending and collection would not be 1:1. Taxes are collected from where people are, but they have to be spent where people *aren't*. A city cannot thrive without connections to other cities/regions...

Yes, I find this sentiment so frustrating! Urban and rural are very much interdependent parts of a larger system. The sentiment also tends to have this icky way to reduce people down to sources of tax revenue instead of human beings.

A couple years ago, a student invited me to an educator appreciation dinner at his mosque. Dozens of families and community members came together to appreciate one another (and to eat delicious food). It is an experience I look back in and cherish.

I've taught high school math for a decade and a half now, and I've had countless Muslim students in my classroom in that time. Every one of them has been kind and hard-working with goodness in their hearts. Diversity has made my classroom better, no question about it.
