I think the Labour offer at the next election needs to include a new referendum.

But Belarus did join. And it's nearly the same.

Yes, in the next session of Parliament either a private member (odds against the same private member) or the Government would need to introduce a bill that is essentially the same bill. Then one month after the Commons third reading, it no longer needs Lord's consent.
January 22, 2026 at 11:05 PM
Or maybe it is theoretically possible for a private member's bill to be a private bill. But this one isn't.

I think you are confusing private bills with private member's bills. Private bills cannot use the Parliament Act. Private member's bills are public bills and can.

Time for the Parliament Act

Yes, I was a bit surprised at his summary of the UKSC judgement. But if he were an expert, I thought I should read the judgement a fifth time.

Why are we not talking about nuclear deterrence?

We might expect it to reduce costs if parties agree to AI making a binding judgement

Agreed. Perhaps also available as part of the sentence for the most serious crimes.

Sure, law can be changed. But, that's why the Irish are so keen on retaining the European Court of Human Rights so due process must be followed. However, removing British Nationality does nothing to change the situation.
December 30, 2025 at 12:38 AM
Well, er, perhaps because of the rights that would have been kept by Irish Nationals.

"The reference to the Guardian canteen is lost on most of us.
Most of the human race have never been to London." ... so are you standing by that as a fair comment?

Is showing it was watched in Florida necessary for *punitive* damages? Is the BBC accountable for a deliberate act (and thus liable for punitive damages) by the programme's producters?

How much of your pot will you be using in the next sixteen years? There's no need to be moving the rest of it into safer funds.

Any hint that they restrict transfers from Stocks & Shares ISAs to cash ISAs?

RR said, "we will consult on options for support or deferral". These cases will likely pay deferred.

Having recourse to an appeal with a jury would reduce the risks.

The other issue is we include the UK Emissions Trading Scheme and Carbon Price Support in the wholesale electricity price, but there is no corresponding carbon tax on domestic gas consumption. Crazy that the carbon tax has the opposite incentive to domestic consumers that it is supposed to have!

Perhaps it is the Russian retreat which defeated Napoleon? Seek a battle only on the 10%, and defend it strongly?

In the interview inside the plane, he also emphasised stopping other people from doing it. Which made me think he is angling for punitive damages, for which one hurdle is "intentional misconduct or gross negligence" (Florida Statutes 768.72).

I wonder how much of it is from people who can decide what their income is without changing behaviour, such as drawdown pensions or directors of limited companies.
November 14, 2025 at 1:05 PM
One other cost included in the total (but not quantified) is the bill for the energy suppliers that failed when the gas price spiked.

ember-energy.org/app/uploads/... page 105 has got a good diagram. It shows the UK in the top left hand corner: good progress on renewable electricity generation, but poor progress on electrification.
