This is so, so great to read, and prior to reading this, I already admired @quincemountain.bsky.social in myriad ways - more so after reading!

As one who has also lost a parent, this part really resonates, and as usual, Q says it best. 💜

This is so, so good. One of the first things I’ve bought separately since subscribing to Apple Music (purchased through iTunes - not streaming bc it’s a BBC recording, apparently), and absolutely worth it.

Sebastian (greyhound) and Simone (beagle) alternately sleeping and plotting. :)
Red fawn greyhound curled up on a pile of loveys in his 10yo human sister’s room. His chin is resting on the paw of the giant Costco bear, affectionately named Sweetbear when sissy was a toddler. These two doofuses like to snuggle together SOMETIMES and they also look like they are plotting against us and are worried we’re onto them. WE ARE. Red fawn greyhound and beagle together on a king sized bed. Grey is looking off to the side and lying down, beagle is sorta sitting and looking at the camera with a guilty WHAT?! expression on her face. These doofuses look surprised again! Beagle and greyhound sitting on a couch together. Beagle is sitting and looks like she’s going to pick a fight with us, and greyhound is lying down but kinda sitting up, and his face is like “huh?” If you look closely you can see a tricolor beagle curled up on a dog bed (we call it the reading pillow!) under a multicolored big unicorn lovey and a bunch of smaller ones. The pile is framed by Sweetbear, the giant Costco bear.

This dumb frame is one of my absolute favorites, and it was prominently displayed on our hallway when I was a sophomore or junior in college. A friend had a Far Side page-a-day calendar, and this was the absolute keeper. The title was a repeated phrase throughout the rest of college. 😂

Sebastian and Simone haven’t had any treats, walks, and food in at least six full months OR SO THEY WOULD HAVE US BELIEVE. Also they are not in cahoots and have no idea why anyone would think that!!
Simone the tricolor beagle and Sebastian the red fawn greyhound are sitting on a couch next to each other and looking at the camera with a WHAT WHO US?! look on their faces. Sebastian the red fawn greyhound and Simone the tricolor beagle are on the bed in a dark bedroom and they are definitely not plotting against us. Sebbie isn’t looking at the camera and is lying down with his chin on the bed, and Simonie is sitting up and staring vaguely guiltily at the camera as though she’s been caught doing…something.

My 10yo and I had a hard time getting moving today, after our customary “20 more minutes to chill before actually getting moving” time had a soundtrack of rain on the skylight and dog snoring, and the warmth of a king bed with blankets, a greyhound, and a beagle. May you have that same calm. 💜

In case anyone needs a solid fortune that seems to be a can’t-miss, Bazooka Joe has you covered.

I was telling 10yo about this the other night, and I remember this fortune as if I were her age again.

10yo & I travel from our home in VA to my hometown on the CT coast every summer, and we have an awesome & relaxing visit with my mom. We take the train (yay Amtrak!) & enjoy swimming in Long Island Sound - this year we went to the beach almost every day.

3 generations together 💜
Small beach in Connecticut with an Adirondack chair on one side and boats moored in the not-so-far distance. From a different (but close by) Connecticut beach, there is another Adirondack chair in the foreground, and this time there’s a teeny lighthouse in the distance. Back to the first beach, and this time there’s is water broken up by grass and a jetty. There are boats in the background and there’s a small yacht club building as well. The NYC skyline in the distance, with several lower buildings and some trees in the foreground. Taken from the Amtrak train headed back home to Virginia.
