Those conditions would have also required that victims’ detailed personal information be shared with the federal government when demanded — a blatant invasion of privacy that would have been used to target victims themselves rather than their abusers. I am relieved this effort has been abandoned.

Medical decisions belong to individuals and their doctors, not politicians and special interest groups.

I know a government shutdown can cause uneasiness and uncertainty for many families. Scammers take advantage of those fears to try to steal money and personal information. The best defense is to stay calm and verify details directly with the government agency.

Threats of violence cost local communities tens of thousands of dollars and can put law enforcement at risk. Whether made with the intent to harm or as pranks, they are real crimes with very real consequences.

Without this assistance, prosecutions would stall, murderers would walk free, and victims would be denied justice. This work is only possible because of the resources provided through our budget, and any shutdown or drastic cuts would take that away from Michigan residents when they need it most.
