It's more of an institutional failure. You are doing this for yourself and have worked hard to build your own funding mechanisms. Unfortunately, often the hallowed halls that most academics work in and perverse incentives to publish as much as possible and feed the maw of the institutions.

As someone else pointed out, there seems to be no asbestos abatement. If this was built in the 40's asbestos is almost assured
