I’m personally not afraid of or opposed to getting an ROI for my tax dollars and having shared services that makes everyone’s life better. This irrational fear that community adversely affects individual freedom (it doesn’t) is precisely why we can’t have nice things.

DHS was hastily cobbled together in the aftermath of 9/11.
We need a Church/Pike Committee equivalent to conduct a clear assessment whether this Cabinet level Department has functioned, and if not then what to do about.
And bring back INS. Carving out ICE and CBP guaranteed the toxic worst.

Agreed, and before abolishing them let’s make sure we have a thorough list of all employees—ie Americans who have recently committed or are likely to commit nationalist violence in the future.
