I regularly manage to "shorten" my chapters by increasing their wordcount by 50%, as well.

It’s also the case with one-dimensional characters.

Characters should be flawed, make stupid decisions and mistakes to make them more relatable to readers.

Nobody wants to read about people who always do everything the way it’s supposed to be. Enter chaos. Enter relatability.
